Nairobi, Kenya: Protesters demonstrate in Kenya’s capital city as the country’s members of parliament debate a finance bill on June 18. The proposed bill would introduce $2.7 billion in new taxes on bread, transportation and other necessities amid a cost-of-living crisis in the East African nation. The government has since announced that it would back down on some of the more controversial taxes. Over 200 people, many Gen Z, were injured in the protests after police began using tear gas and water cannons to break up the crowd. One man was killed, allegedly by police gunfire.
