Summary
- Scalpers are listing Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition for thousands of pounds.
- One listing is almost £3,000, prompting backlash from Larian's head of publishing.
- Some listings don't even include the game.
Baldur's Gate 3's Collector's Edition scalping has gotten even worse, as resellers list the collection for thousands of pounds. In some cases, the game itself is not included, despite the inflated prices.
It's gotten so bad that the scalpers are being called out by Larian's director of publishing, Michael Douse. This comes after he found a listing for £2,900 (around $3,700 USD), with other eBay sellers trying to shift their copies for similar prices.
Baldur's Gate 3 Scalpers Called Out As Collector's Edition Listed For Almost £3,000
The Collector's Edition of Baldur's Gate 3 was available in a limited supply before the game's launch last year. Of course, the RPG went on to explode in popularity after its launch, so many who missed out are forced to go through resellers - who are far from reasonable with their prices.
This was an issue immediately after launch, but it only seems to have gotten worse one year later. Going through eBay now, listings are regularly in the thousands, even without a copy of the game and the DLC that was included at launch. The one that Douse spotted is still up to, and it remains to be seen if anyone caves in and forks over that much money for it.
At the very least, another special edition which Larian released - Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition - was pretty scalper-proof. This was not a limited release, and can actually still be purchased on the Larian website. Orders are sent out in waves, so there might be a bit of a wait. It also won't give you the goodies included in the Collector's Edition, but it is the only way to get a physical copy of the game right now and comes packaged with its own bits. On top of that, it doesn't involve forking over one month's wages to a scalper, which is always nice.
Baldur's Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
