What is an eSIM? Comparing eSIMs, SIM Cards, and Wi-Fi Routers
Intro. of eSIM for Beginners
An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a non-removable SIM integrated directly into your smartphone, serving the same purpose as traditional SIM cards but with a twist: it's fixed and soldered onto the phone's motherboard, making it programmable. At first, this embedded nature might seem like a disadvantage, especially for those used to swapping SIM cards for local rates while traveling or changing carriers without changing phones. The flexibility of easily replacing a physical SIM card appears lost with an eSIM.
Yet, eSIM technology simplifies the process of changing carriers. Unlike the physical SIM card swap, updating your carrier with an eSIM is a digital process, often as simple as scanning a QR code. This means you can switch carriers without physical replacements, directly from your phone's settings. For those who use dual-SIM phones, eSIMs offer even more convenience, allowing for easy management and switching between multiple accounts.
Comparing eSIMs, SIM Cards, and Wi-Fi Routers
Feature | eSIM | SIM Card | WiFi Router |

Cons | - Not supported by all devices; | - Risk of loss or damage - Can be inconvenient | - Less portable than SIM cards or eSIMs - Can be expensive |
