I stayed at the Blowfish hotel on 13th January 2022. It was advertised as a four star hotel. The signing in was uncomplicated and the reception staff were helpful and efficient. I booked a deluxe room and was taken there. The room was good - neat, tidy and spacious. The air conditioner worked. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to have a bath in the accommodation as well as a shower. So given all of that why does it only merit a rating of 3? Well, because when you book a four star hotel you don't just expect accommodation of good quality - you also expect a four star hotel to have an eye for and an attention to detail. This was sadly lacking. Firstly, having stayed in hotels in different locations of different quality for the past 40 years, this is the first time I have stayed in a room which did not have a single clothes hanger. Secondly, I'm a tea drinker. The only drinks provided were sachets of coffee and green mint tea (yuk!) so I went and bought some regular black tea. Thirdly, as the bath is also a shower, there is a fixed panel half the length of the bath which prevents easy access to the taps and means unless you have very long arms, you can't put the bath plug in or turn on the water without getting into the bath - a tense moment as you wait to see whether you have guessed right and the water comes out of the faucet or the shower head. Luckily, I got it right. Fourthly, they tell you on arrival that there is room service and vaguely tell you where breakfast will be served but there's no information pack or room service in the room. This would be helpful and would probably generate more room service revenue. The breakfast was just ok although the card you are given on arrival says breakfast is served from 6am - it's not,,, its 7am. The girls at reception did mention this to me but maybe it should also be reflected on the room key card to avoid any confusion. Finally, the TV was a waste of time. I think there were five or six channels available and three of these had a 'fuzzy' picture. Really? A four star hotel? So. all in all a nice place, good accommodation, nice service but the devil is in the detail. For many people these issues will be a minor distraction. To me the difference between lower and higher quality hotels is attention to that kind of detail. Little things mean a lot. Good but must do better!!

It was a harrowing experience on the night of 21 May 2022. Had booked and organised a small get together for staff of Globacom. Was astonished to find upon reaching Woks (the restaurant), the disorganised, unconcerned and unprofessional seating arrangement for the guests. One small square table was attached with two larger circular tables on its sides, with wall fixed straight sitting on one side, and independant chairs on the other, which was an extremely inconvenient arrangement for the guests to sit, reach the table, and be able to enjoy their meals, and the evening. After getting personally involved and demanding change, I was able to get the circular tableat one end replaced with two square tables, and bringing in some sense of alignment. No initiative was forthcoming or evident from the Management or the staff, to replace the other circular table, defeating the very logic and purpose of sitting dinner for a larger group. The serving staff lacked both interest and initiative, apart from adequate training and professionalism, and had to be summoned time and again, to refill the peanut bowls, charge drinks, remove empty beer bottles, remove empty appetizer dishes etc. More time was spent on this task, than enjoying our evening and dinner peacefully. The food was nothing great to talk about. The serving portions were meagre, in relation to the prices charged. When the appetizers were served, no fork or tong was provided to take the dish, and the staff had to be reminded time and again, for the same. The ambience at the sitting place was more like a crowded market. The serving staff gathered and grouped around the seating space and the bar, eating into limited space and also restrcting movement. The music was too load, such that it was becoming difficult to talk to and hear each other. The speaker was placed on the bar counter, nearly at the ear level of sitting guests, instead of being fixed in a corner closer to ceiling and farther away from the seating. Finally had to ask the staff to turn it off. A good evening planned, for a small group, was spoilt royally, by staff and management who displayed lack of both professionalism and empathy. Would never even think about going there again. There are much better places in the near vicinity, for the fun of being in your group can be better enhanced, by better professional teams. I will exercise those options.
