📚🇦🇺 Education and skills development are essential for driving economic growth in Southern Africa, and last night’s Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa) Africa-Australia Skills & Education Event showcased the impactful partnerships working toward this goal. As industries evolve, so must our skills—the value of today’s knowledge declines rapidly, underscoring the need for continuous, practical learning and training. Australian companies and institutions in Southern Africa are collaborating with local partners to deliver innovative education solutions that equip individuals and communities with the skills to thrive: The Engineering Institute of Technology and IDEA are supporting the development of technical STEM skills from basic to tertiary education, using immersive, industry-aligned programs that prepare students to adapt and excel in fast-changing fields. The Boiler Room uses virtual reality and AI-based learning to create interactive, hands-on training experiences that bring education to life. Rio Tinto is building a strong talent pipeline and resilient local communities through: - leadership and management training with Duke University and a graduate program with University of Cape Town. - The Imbokodo Program, to enhance the representation of women in the mining industry and foster future leaders; and - apprenticeships, youth programs, mentorship programs, engineering skills development, and bursaries that support a diverse and skilled workforce to meet community needs. Cotton On Foundation has raised almost $170 million over 15 years to support youth development. Their Retail Academy, in partnership with Afrika Tikkun, offers a 12-month training program to prepare young people for roles in the retail industry. Established in South Africa, the academy has now expanded to Australia and the US. With South Africa taking on the #G20 chair for 2025, education and skills development will be central to discussions on global economic development and cooperation. A big thank you to our partners for their ongoing commitment to supporting communities across Southern Africa. Together, we’re building a skilled, adaptable workforce ready for the future. 🇦🇺🤝🇿🇦
