🌍 Fostering equitable, sustainable scientific partnerships: a recap of the inaugural Africa-Europe CoRE Conference 🌍 👉 https://lnkd.in/dwh3b9He Over 250 researchers and academics from 49 institutions across #Africa, #Europe, and beyond gathered at STIAS: Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, #SouthAfrica, for the first Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence Conference, co-led by African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild. ✨ Together, we explored interdisciplinary research across #health, #AI, #green transitions, and more, with a strong focus on building equitable partnerships to address global challenges like #health, #sustainability, and #innovation 🔭. The conference presented high-level discussions on the transformative power of these partnerships and their role in advancing the AU-EU Innovation agenda 🌍. 📢 As Prof. ‘Funmi Olonisakin of King's College London said: “We’re not just researchers, we’re change-makers.” The conference highlighted the fundamental role of collaboration across borders. 📢 Jan Palmowski, Secretary-General of The Guild, remarked: “The most important outcome was the energy amongst all the participants, fantastic evidence that societal challenges know no disciplinary boundaries.” 🌍 Let’s continue fostering innovation, capacity building, and change for the benefit of both African and European societies! #AfricaEuropeCoRE #ResearchExcellence #Sustainability #Innovation #EquitablePartnerships Aarhus University Universitatea „Babeș-Bolyai” din Cluj-Napoca Universität Bern Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna Universiteit Gent University of Glasgow Georg-August-Universität Göttingen Rijksuniversiteit Groningen Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie King's College London Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) University of Ljubljana Université Paris Cité Université catholique de Louvain Radboud University Université PSL Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona University of Tartu University of Tuebingen Uppsala University University of Warwick Universität Wien

📣 Just published! Explore the Funding Landscape for Research on Health, Migration, and Displacement, 2016-2020 report. Co-developed by #WHO Health and Migration and the Department of Research for Health within the #WHO Science Division, this review of nine of the major global health research funders showed that the existing research funding landscape is insufficient to meet the urgent research gaps identified in the WHO Global research agenda on health, migration and displacement. Key findings: The review found that a total of 527 grants (396.4 million USD) were awarded by these funders, with a stagnation in funding across this period. This trend contradicts the increasing number of people who are migrants or displaced from their homes globally. Call for action: The report highlights the urgent need for more research grants to be directed to researchers and research programmes in low- and middle-income countries especially those that host large proportions of migrants, refugees and other forcibly displaced populations. 📊 Check out our interactive dashboard for insights into how major research funds are distributed by location, duration, year, and priority themes: https://shorturl.at/1b3ST 🔗 Read the full snapshot: https://lnkd.in/eJ_-NAqx 📑 Learn more about the Global research agenda on health, migration and displacement: https://lnkd.in/e9h_viJU 🗓️ Stay tuned for our launch event in November. #HealthForAll

Great initiative by colleagues at the Cluster of Research Excellence in Interdisciplinary Peace Research at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies - IPSS!
📍 Scientific Writing and Publishing Workshop – Day 1 The Cluster of Research Excellence in Interdisciplinary Peace Research is currently running a workshop on Scientific Writing and Publishing. The workshop, which is taking place in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, commenced on Monday, 1st of July, and will run until 3rd of July 2024. The workshop is intended to build the writing and publishing skills of students enrolled in a PhD programme in the social sciences or peace and security studies and early-career postdoctoral researchers based at African and European universities. A writing and publishing workshop is pertinent for PhD students since it fosters the development of critical abilities related to academic writing, research dissemination, and publishing process navigation. It offers helpful advice on how to write research articles, get more exposure, and progress their academic careers through efficient writing and publication techniques. The Scientific Writing and Publishing Workshop is modeled as a writing bootcamp and enables participants to receive lectures on methodology and writing skills, have tailor-made one-on-one tutoring, and be paired with others for peer-to-peer learning. The workshop also provides the opportunity for a self-paced write-shop to refine existing articles or thesis towards publishable standards or to draft new ones for review and tailor-made feedback from a mentor. The first day of the workshop kicked off with a welcome and introductions, followed by presentations on starting a research proposal and on what makes a good PhD thesis?. The remaining part of the day was dedicated to a self-paced writing session for participants, and a panel discussion on the goodness-of-fit of academic writing. The workshop, with its interactive sessions and networking opportunities, enabled participants to discuss their research work with their peers, and think about how they seek to contribute to academic literature. The online survey for participants’ satisfaction registered a remarkable 93 percent “very satisfied” rating, making the workshop exceptionally successful. #AfricaEuropeCoRE
