The tallest wind turbine in South Africa stands at 168 meters—that’s taller than the Orlando Towers in Soweto and just a few meters short of Ponte Tower in Johannesburg. Wind turbines are made up of many key components which play a vital role in harnessing the power of the wind: 🌬️ Blades – Capture the wind’s energy and start spinning (their long length helps capture any breeze, big or small.)  🌬️ Rotor – The central hub where the blades attach, the key to transferring energy to the main shaft.  🌬️ Nacelle – Housing the gearbox, generator, and control system – some may say the “brains” behind the turbine.  🌬️ Tower – Supports the structure and lifts the blades high to catch stronger winds.  🌬️ Foundation – As with most things, a strong base to keep the system stable, even in strong winds. The taller the turbine, the more consistent the power generation, which is why we keep striving to reach new heights at ENGIE⚡ #withENGIE

☀️ Grootspruit Solar PV Update ☀️ The Grootspruit 75 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant is powering ahead, with 98,820 solar modules now installed. Each panel brings us closer to strengthening the South African electricity grid and contributing to the electricity needs of thousands of households. A massive thank you to our remarkable Grootspruit Team, Aurex Constructors, Pele Green Energy, Ablon Construction, and every partner supporting this journey.

ENGIE was proud to take part in the 2nd edition of the Sustainable Finance Forum, hosted by BMCI Groupe BNP Paribas. As an official partner of the BMCI Greentech Roadshow, ENGIE had also the privilege of attending the awards ceremony for the finalist startups, which culminated a nine-month competition. During the opening panel, Loïc Jaegert-Huber, Regional Manager of ENGIE North Africa, tackled key challenges in carbon accounting, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and the strategies to help Moroccan companies accelerate their decarbonization efforts. The event wrapped up with the BMCI Greentech Roadshow awards, celebrating breakthrough startups in the blue economy, low-carbon solutions, and agritech. In 2023, wind and solar power produced 12% of South Africa's electricity. In celebration of International Day of Education, we are beaming with pride at the incredible matric results from Sipho Camagu High School and Lonwabo High School. 🎓 Sipho Camagu High School achieved a 96.1% matric pass rate, with one student placing 1st overall in the Amathole West District. Lonwabo High School’s matric pass rate impressively increased from 11% to 100% in just a few years. 📈 Our Golden Valley Wind Energy Facility is a proud partner of both schools, providing study materials, extra classes, and nutrition programs aimed at empowering communities to thrive.
