Building Resilient Food Systems Across Africa
About us
The Food Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), is an autonomous stakeholder-driven policy research, analysis, and implementation network and is mandated to work in all African countries. The FANRPAN policy network was formed in response to a call made by Agriculture Ministers in the Eastern and Southern Africa region for a network that could provide independent evidence to inform policy harmonization at the regional level. The network is representative of governments, farmer organizations, researchers, the private sector, Parliamentarians, and the media. Vision: A food secure Africa free from hunger and poverty. Mission: To promote effective Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (FANR) policies by: • Facilitating linkages and partnerships between government and civil society; • Building the capacity for policy analysis and policy dialogue; and • Supporting demand-driven policy research and analysis.

🌍 Today at COP29 FANRPAN joined global leaders, experts, and stakeholders committed to transforming food systems for a resilient future at the 3rd Annual Agri-Food Systems Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. The summit sought to catalyze investible, collaborative, and accessible adaptations in the agriculture sector. Discussions focused on creating new models of collaboration and identifying innovative pathways to transform agri-food systems into sustainable and resilient models for the future. Key areas of focus included: ✅ Developing sustainable food chains ✅ Addressing water scarcity ✅ Mobilizing investment ✅ Harnessing the power of innovation and technology 🌱 The Alliance for Food System Transformation presented 10 priority action areas to integrate biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, and sustainable food production. FANRPAN is at the forefront of addressing climate resilience in food and agricultural systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Through initiatives like: 📌 CBA SCALE+: Scaling-up Community Action for Livelihoods and Ecosystems. 📌 Collaboration with the CGIAR ClimBeR Initiative on Climate Resilience. FANRPAN is building capacity for policies that bring together local needs and available tools, enabling governance for resilience and drawing out “champions of change” to advocate for local investment, empowerment, and inclusion. The collective resolve at the Agri-Food Systems Summit is a testament to the power of collaboration in transforming food systems sustainably and inclusively. ✨ FANRPAN looks forward to driving impactful changes to secure Africa’s food future. Today marked a significant milestone for youth engagement in Africa’s agricultural sector as FANRPAN participated in the inaugural African Youth Agribusiness Forum (AYAF) at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa. The event brought together youth leaders, policy experts, and senior officials to advance a shared vision for a resilient, inclusive, and youth-driven agrifood system across the continent. The forum was honored by the presence of H.E. Amb. Josefa Sacko, AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, and H.E. Cem Özdemir, the Federal Minister of Agriculture from Germany. Their leadership in championing youth in agribusiness underscores the crucial role young people play in driving sustainable agricultural transformation in Africa. In addition, we are proud to announce the official opening of the project office for the AU-Agricultural Policy Dialogue (AU-APD), a joint initiative housed at the African Union Commission. This office, inaugurated by H.E. Amb. Sacko and Minister Özdemir, will serve as a hub for advancing strategic agricultural policy dialogues. FANRPAN, as part of the AU-APD consortium, is committed to contributing our expertise and resources to support the initiative’s goal of building robust and effective agricultural policies that promote sustainable growth and opportunity for Africa’s youth. At FANRPAN, we believe that empowering young agripreneurs is key to achieving a food-secure and prosperous Africa. Our participation in AYAF and our partnership within the AU-APD consortium reflect our dedication to fostering an enabling environment for youth in agriculture, aligned with key frameworks like Agenda 2063 and CAADP. Together, we are shaping the future of African agriculture. 🌍 #FANRPAN #AYAF2024 #AUAPD #YouthInAgriculture #AgriculturalPolicy #AfricanAgriculture #JosefaSacko #Agenda2063 #CAADP
