The new and improved Checkers Sixty60 app is redefining online shopping in South Africa. Dr Nqobile Manzini received an early Christmas present this year when the specially branded Checkers airplane brought her son to Cape Town for a surprise visit. The cardiothoracic surgeon is completing her final year at Groote Schuur Hospital, working shifts of up to 36 hours, and rarely gets time to see her five-year-old who lives with his grandmother in KwaZulu-Natal. This is just the first of many families that will be reunited for an Xtra special festive season, as Checkers will be giving away 2 000 airline tickets to connect loved ones. The Shoprite Foundation is supporting the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs with two new horticultural tunnels at the Oosrand Commerce and Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation in Reiger Park, Boksburg. In line with the Foundation’s commitment to bridging educational gaps and equipping youth for future-fit careers, this initiative enables the students to grow produce year-round while acquiring invaluable skills in horticulture and entrepreneurship. Additionally, the fresh produce harvested from these tunnels will provide an extra source of income for the school.
