We have opened our 150th Shoprite supermarket in Gauteng, at the iconic Carlton Centre in Johannesburg CBD, bringing a variety of products and services to the city’s bustling urban community.    This brings the total number of Shoprite stores across South Africa to 638, with 14 new supermarkets opened in the last two months alone. Of the 83 people employed at the new 2 883m² store, 41 are brand new positions. In the 2024 financial year, we created a total of 6 490 new jobs, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to economic growth and job creation throughout the country. It’s official. We have South Africa’s best mince pie!    Our Checkers Traditional Festive Fruit Mince Pies have emerged as the winner at this year’s Sunday Times Taste Test for their perfect ratio of fruity filling to golden buttery pastry. The panel of judges compared flavours, appearance, as well as the pastry and mince quality of pies across the country’s major retailers.
