If men don’t teach respect and the recognition that women and girls have agency, who will? In learning to respect others, boys learn to respect themselves and have healthy boundaries. Bullying behaviour is at the root of gender-based violence. When you see bullying, do you step in or walk away? Real men call out bullying wherever it happens—whether it’s against women, kids, or other men. Because staying silent makes you part of the problem. They call this “strong”. But real strength isn’t about pretending not to feel and bottling up emotions. It hurts our boys when they are forced to suppress their feelings, and don’t have the basic words for every day, human emotions. It’s time for us men to create safe spaces and find the courage to be emotionally vulnerable and admit when we need help. This is the true strength that builds better men.
