  • The last of our top five students in the KSA’s 2024 Student Kitchen Design Project is Cindy McKenzie from Vega in Pretoria. This is the second time Cindy has entered the project and she has come top five both times – an amazing achievement. As a passionate and dedicated interior designer, Cindy brings a unique blend of creativity and strategic thinking to every project. Committed to creating captivating spaces, she prioritise both visual impact and practical usability. She recognises the importance of designing accessible, user-friendly spaces and ensure my designs are tailored specific solutions that resonate with the clients’ visions and requirements. Her attention to detail and textural layering ensures each project is distinctive and authentic. She enjoys kitchen design because it blends functionality with aesthetics to enhance clients' daily lives. She finds kitchen designing an incredibly rewarding and a gratifying process that turns an essential space into a functioning, accessible, appealing design that integrates the client’s style and preferences to make each kitchen unique. Cindy opted for brief one focusing on the retired couple moving to their last home, downscaling in the process. Cindy’s design facilitated the downscaling without compromising the sense of space and maintained the high-end elegance and sophistication the client wanted. Cindy will be moving to Cape Town to do her postgraduate studies in design at UCT and will be doing an internship with one of our KSA members in Cape Town while she studies.  #KSA #kitchenspecialistsassociaiton #studentkitchendesign #kitchendesign #studentkitchenproject

  • Robyn Karstens – a second-year student from BHC school of Design is the fourth to be featured from our top five in our student kitchen design project. Robyn chose to do our first brief of a couple moving to a retirement home in the Cape. Her understanding of materials, space and costing was excellent for a second-year student. She used a lovely back story of the couple having enjoyed traveling in their youth and how the kitchen took inspiration from their love of eating out in small European trattorias. Robyn enjoys challenging herself to find creative solutions to problems and researching innovative technologies. Her design journey started out with Visual Arts in high school, she has always had a love for beautifully designed spaces and wanted to explore the interior design industry. She finds her design inspiration in the history of a space or site and loves to find the story hidden within it while putting her own spin on it. Hospitality design is what draws her interest most as she likes to create playful, moody spaces with fun quirks. Robyn will be taking up a 4-week internship with a KSA member during her June/July holidays in 2025. #KSA #kitchenspecialistsassociation #studentdesign #studentkitchendesign #kitchendesign #studentkitchenproject

  • Our third student from the top 5 finalists in the KSA’s 2024 student Kitchen Design Project is Kyla Jooste from Inscape Stellenbosch. Kyla is 22 years old and just finished her BDes degree specialising in Interior Design. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and she is so grateful for the opportunity to showcase my passion and creativity through this project. Kyla’s project was based on our second brief set in a 60’s style home in Soweto. The design was supposed to accommodate a multi-generational family, be made in durable, cost-effective materials, be easy to clean and maintain and be in two tones. Her project showed a good use of space and created a clean, open space for the family. Kyla will sadly not be able to take up her internship opportunity as she is emigrating in the new year. We wish her well with her adventure. #KSA #kitchenspecialistsassociaiton #kitchendesign #studentkitchendeisgn #studentdesign

  • Next to make the top five in the KSA’s 2024 student kitchen design project is Megan Somers who is a third-year student at Inscape Pretoria. She is a hardworking and passionate Interior Design student with a strong foundation in creative and sustainable design principles. She is dedicated to honing her skills and expanding her knowledge in order to create innovative and functional spaces. Her goal is to develop a career where she can contribute to the design industry by creating environments that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional, with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity. She is eager to take on new challenges and grow as a professional in the field. Megan took on the project’s second brief which was to create a kitchen for a 1960’s style home in Diepkloof Soweto for a multi-generational family. The space had to cater to the needs of older grandparents as well as their young granddaughter and her two-year-old son. Finishes needed to be easy to maintain and cost effective with good longevity and the kitchen had to be two tone. Megan will be taking up an internship with a Pretoria based KSA members in the new year. We wish her the best with this and hope that her internship will build her enjoyment of kitchen design. #KSA #kitchenspecialistsassociaiton #studentproject #studentkitchendesign
