World Vision Zimbabwe, with the invaluable support of World Vision USA, donated medical supplies through the Gift-In-Kind (GIK) model to the Mashonaland West Provincial Medical Director (PMD) in Chinhoyi. At the handover ceremony, Dr. Celestino Dhege, PMD of Mashonaland West, expressed deep appreciation for this timely donation, especially as the province copes with a cholera outbreak in Kariba, and threats being anticipated from Cyclone Chido. He emphasized that these supplies, ranging from surgical instruments to sundries and resuscitation equipment, will preposition health preparedness and emergency response efforts in the province. Dr. Dhege also highlighted Mashonaland West's vulnerability to outbreaks, given its two airports and the Chirundu border with Zambia. Delegates from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Government of Zimbabwe visited Epworth yesterday, where World Vision Zimbabwe is implementing the Swiss-funded El Niño Life Saving Cash Project. During the visit, the delegates engaged with project recipients and listened to their stories, learning firsthand about the challenges posed by the drought and how the cash assistance is helping them cope. This project is providing essential support to over 4,000 households, helping families cushion themselves against the severe impacts of this drought-stricken period. Family-led Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) initiatives are yielding positive results in nutrition surveillance, early detection, and timely referrals in Chipinge. With support from UNICEF Zimbabwe and the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), World Vision Zimbabwe is partnering with the Ministry of Health and Child Care in empowering Lead Mothers to take proactive measures in screening children under five years old for malnutrition as part of the El Niño Nutrition Response Project. “With the MUAC tape, I can monitor my children’s health and also the children from my Care Group.
