He was a boy, she was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
He was a punk, she did ballet
What more can I say?
He wanted her, she'd never tell
Secretly she wanted him as well
But all of her friends stuck up their nose
And they had a problem with his baggy clothes
[Chorus]
He was a skater boy, she said, "See you later, boy"
He wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face, but her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to Earth
[Verse 2]
Five years from now, she sits at home
Feedin' the baby, she's all alone
She turns on TV, guess who she sees?
Skater boy rockin' up MTV
She calls up her friends, they already know
And they've all got tickets to see his show
She tags along and stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down
He was a skater boy, she said, "See you later, boy"
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a superstar, slammin' on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?
He was a skater boy, she said, "See you later, boy"
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a superstar, slammin' on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?
[Bridge]
Sorry, girl, but you missed out
Well, tough luck, that boy's mine now
We are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
Too bad that you couldn't see
I see the man that boy could be
There is more than meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside
[Breakdown]
He's just a boy, and I'm just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
We are in love, haven't you heard
How we rock each other's world?

About
“Sk8er Boi” is a song from Avril Lavigne’s debut album Let Go which was released on Aug. 27, 2002 when Avril was seventeen years old.
This song is about a skater boy that liked a girl who was too stuck up and too worried about her friends' opinions to admit that she liked him back. This was a decision she went on to regret as the skater boy became a successful musician whereas the girl ended up a single mother living alone.
The song did not perform as strong commercially as Lavigne’s previous single from Let Go, which was “Complicated,” but still peaked at #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

I love how much people still really bring that song up. I love how warmly everybody still feels toward it. It’s a really special thing, and unique, to have a song that really stands out. I have a lot of big songs, but that one, everyone seems to resonate with. It’s taken on… it’s insane to see a whole new generation discovering music of mine twenty years later. It’s pretty unbelievable. But the song is going to take a new life of its own as I turn it into a film, I’m in the process of doing that now. I have a writer and a director at the moment, and I’m producing it and assembling a team right now.

“Sk8er Boi” is a super special song to me. I wrote it about my high-school experience, sort of, like, different groups and cliques and stuff, and I was obsessed with skaters and skater boys. Everyone my entire life – it was more so the media – has brought up turning “Sk8er Boi” into a film. I’ve had so many people pitch the idea to me, and then finally I’m like, OK, it’s time. We’re gonna make a “Sk8er Boi” film, and I’m in the process right now of producing and developing. I’ve got a director and a writer, and we’re making a script right now, and it’s really exciting. And what’s cool about it is I think I’ll get to have like a lot of my friends in the music scene, like, make dope cameos and stuff, and it’s gonna be so fun. And I’m really excited to learn how to make a movie. That’s just, like, the next step for me in my career, and I’ve done, like, a little acting here and there, and you know, I’ve shot enough music videos.
