Candy Paint Lyrics
Bank roll, thumbin', baby, you know how I'm comin'
Booty on bubonic and I move it how I want it
Big girl shit, baby, I don't do no runnin'
I can make it boom-boom clap like I'm drummin'
[Refrain]
Shake it, make it tick, tick, tick, brum-bumpin'
Shake it, make it tick, tick, tick, tick, brum-bum-bumpin'
Whippin' shit, I could turn nothin' into somethin'
Pop it, make it tick, tick, tick, bum-bum-bumpin'
[Pre-Chorus]
I can make your nigga hit the race if I wanted
Baby, I could take your place if I wanted
I could hit the bank and spend this cake if I wanted
Told me I could put the diamonds on them face if I wanted
[Chorus]
If you let me take him, you might never get him back
I'm a baddie and I don't know how to act
Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back
It's too bad your nigga don't know how to act
When I'm finished, baby, you can have him back
Mhm, baby, you can have him back
Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back
It's too bad your nigga don't know how to
Act 'round the baddest, he used to average
Don't know what bad is, I'll show you bad
I took my wrist, AP'd it up
I took my neck and freezed it up
I took my whip to speed it up
I need a nigga to beat it up while I'm (Mm)
When I'm finished, baby, you can have him back
Mhm, baby, you can have him back
Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back
It's too bad your nigga don't know how to
Handle me
Sweet just like candy
Sweet, sweet
Taste just like candy
Handle me
Sweet just like candy
Sweet, sweet
Taste just like candy
[Chorus]
If you let me take him, you might never get him back
I'm a baddie and I don't know how to act
Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back
It's too bad your nigga don't know how to act
When I'm finished, baby, you can have him back
Mhm, baby, you can have him back
Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back
It's too bad your nigga don't know how to
About
The uptempo, Texas inspired song “Candy Paint” is the third single to Normani’s Dopamine.
A first preview of the track surfaced after it was played at a release party for her March 2022 single, “Fair.” In June of that same year, Normani recorded herself singing over the first verse of the song. However, the release was delayed due to unknown circumstances, and it ended up leaked in full in early 2023. In June 2023, the song seemed to be back on track, as a snippet of it was featured in a promotional campaign for the headphone brand Bose and was further teased by Normani herself in an interview with Billboard, accompanying the partnership. Fast foward to February 2024, her official team account confirmed its spot on Normani’s debut album. It was once again teased at the end of the first album teaser a week before the song’s release.

The inspiration behind it is Texas, all the way! I really wanted to create a record that allowed me to show my personality. I feel like there’s a misconception; I think that people think I’m so serious, which is the complete opposite of me. It’s a performance record first. It’s fun, energetic, bossy. It’s bold. It’s sassy but assertive. It came pretty quickly. I had been working with Starrah, who I’ve been working very closely with just on the project overall, I feel like she knows me better than anybody. And the cool thing is we’re able to push each other. The idea came organically. I remember playing it at an event — my family and friends were there, and [my choreographer] was like, “Should we play it?” We ended up teasing it, and it was undeniable! We were like, “OK, this is it! This is the one!”

“Candy Paint” is Dopamine. It bridges the gap, I think, between “Motivation” and where I am now. It’s the big cousin to “Motivation.” As soon as it comes on, you move, and when you think of me, you think of movement. I feel like where we are musically, we can afford to pick it up a little bit, like tempo, energy, full-on eight counts.
