To celebrate a year chock-full of fascinating and unexplained supposed Loch Ness Monster sightings, the Daily Record has rounded up some of the most compelling.
The Loch Ness Monster remains one of Scotland's—and the world's—biggest unsolved mysteries.
For almost 100 years, locals and tourists alike have shared stories and images that they claim proves Loch Ness is home to a mythical creature. Also known as Nessie, the beast has become an iconic symbol of Scotland.
For the Loch Ness Monster hunters out there, 2024 was a particularly interesting year. A number of images have been shared that, to many, prove Nessie exists once and for all.
The Daily Record has rounded up some of the top supposed Nessie sightings from throughout 2024. From photographs of strange shapes beneath the surface of the water to a swimmer who claims to have felt "something" brush against him, at least one is sure to pique your interest.
While no footage captured this year definitely proves or disproves the existence of Nessie, it has all certainly led to some interesting conversations. You may even be inspired to head to the iconic loch for yourself in 2025.

Back in March, "game-changing" previously unseen footage supposedly of the Loch Ness Monster was shared. The images were snapped by photographer Chie Kelly and stitched together by The Cryptid Factor podcast into a video that you can watch here. In the footage, a massive unidentified shape can be seen just beneath the water and potentially breaking the surface.

At the start of the summer, a massive search for the Loch Ness Monster took place between May 30 and June 2. While hundreds of Nessie hunters came together to search the loch for the elusive beast, the most compelling evidence came from 11-year-old Evelyn Murphy. She took a photograph that depicts a clear break in the water made by an unexplained object or animal.

On September 6, longtime Nessie hunter Eoin O Faodhagain was watching the Visit Inverness Loch Ness live webcam when he saw strange activity on the surface of the loch. He spotted a "singular black hump" that "moved slowly" across the water, as well as a "cylinder shaped object" that resembled a neck. The unusual shape was described as being four-feet long and sitting a foot above the surface of the loch.

Also in September, Australian daredevil Duncan Roberts braced the chilly waters of Loch Ness for a charity challenge. While he was swimming to the deepest area of the loch, he felt "something" underwater brush against him. At the time, Roberts said: "During my swim I experienced a bump half way across. It was something big. The water is pitch black and I had my eyes closed a lot of the time as the depth and darkness terrified me so I didn't see anything. I just felt it, a big thud in the chest."

One month later, the Loch Ness Centre in Drumnadrochit recorded a "substantial underwater presence" in Loch Ness. The reading was captured on one of the centre's regular Deepscan cruises, which make use of state-of-the-art radar technology to examine the depths of Loch Ness. Research at the time suggested that it may have shown "substantial underwater presences or potentially large aquatic creatures" deep underwater.
