People in Scotland have named their favourite streets across the country.
All over Scotland, there are countless picturesque cities, towns, and villages. As reported by the Daily Record, South Queensferry near Edinburgh was recently named the "prettiest" place in the country.
However, on a smaller scale, there are also plenty of particular roads that stand out too. One Scot recently took to social media platform Reddit to ask people what their favourite street in Scotland is is.
Writing on the website's Scotland community alongside an image of Victoria Street in Edinburgh, the user asked: "What’s the best street in Scotland?"
Since being shared last week, the post has received more than 550 'upvotes'. With more than 160 comments, fellow Scots were keen to share their own picks for the country's top road.
Agreeing with the original poster's Victoria Street pick, one Reddit user said: "I've always loved the Esher-esque layout of this part of Edinburgh. You're at street level but also three floors up from street level below you in the same building."
Victoria Street is among the Scottish capital's most recognisable thoroughfares. The winding cobblestone lane starts at the eastern end of the Grassmarket and continues up to the George IV Bridge, featuring everything from restaurants to Harry Potter souvenir shops.
In response to the comment, another user replied: "Edinburgh Central Library is good for that. I think you can go out to street level on three different floors."
Meanwhile, another disagreed, writing: "Victoria Street is such an embarrassment. Look at the mess of the road they’ve made."
Also in Edinburgh, someone else singled out Cockburn Street as the best road in Scotland. They commented: "Interesting shops, funny name, lots of wee closes."
Cockburn Street was constructed in 1856 as a serpentine link between the High Street and Waverley Station. Its main features include offices for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and beloved specialist shops such as record store Underground Solution and W. Armstrong & Son Vintage Clothing Emporium, while the street is also known for being a filming location for the blockbuster 2018 movie Avengers: Infinity War.
Elsewhere, multiple people named Leith Walk in Edinburgh as the best road in Scotland. Among the longest streets in the city, Leith Walk links the Shore area of Leith with Edinburgh's City Centre and Princes Street.
One Scot wrote: "It's Leith Walk. I'm from Glasgow l but have lived off the Walk for six years now and there's nothing that touches the cultural, drinking, commercial spirit of Leith Walk."
Moving over to Glasgow, one Reddit user chose Great Western Road in Glasgow as their pick for the best street in Scotland. Previously being named among the "coolest" roads in the world by Time Out in 2022, Great Western Road was created as a 'toll road' after an Act of Parliament in 1816.
A second user echoed: "I loved it for the variation that’s there. You start off at St Georges Cross and til Kelvinbridge it’s no the nicest of roads/strts but from there to Queen Margaret’s Drive, it just gets better and from there to the pond the architecture becomes amazing and from there it’s all the way down."
However, another Reddit user argued: "Great Western Road like 15 years ago — aye definitely.
"Though in fairness I was 17 and exploring the west end for the first time like I was a Labrador puppy and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It’s changed a lot since then."
Other suggestions for the "best streets in Scotland" included Main Street in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, Market Street in St Andrews, and Shore Street in Ullapool. Market Street was praised for its "good mix of independent and acceptable high street businesses", while Shore Street was called "gorgeous".
