The results of the 2024 General Election are in and the Labour Party has come out victorious. Bagging morning 400 seats, Labour has successfully stolen the majority from the Tories in a landslide victory.

Prior to the vote, the Conservatives had held all 11 seats in Surrey, but the nail-biting overnight count revealed that several of these constituencies have now been taken over by the Lib Dems. Thanks to boundary changes that took place earlier this year, there were 13 seats contested at this year’s election, two of which straddle neighbouring counties - Windsor and the newly formed Farnham and Bordon.

Voters hit the polls on Thursday, July 4, with the winners announced overnight and throughout the early hours this morning. While the Tories have maintained several key seats, including Reigate and Spelthorne, others have now turned yellow.

The Liberal Democrats successfully secured Guildford, Woking and Surrey Heath, among several other notable seats. In total, the Conservatives now hold seven seats, while the Liberal Democrats occupy six.

Despite their landslide victory, Labour did not gain any seats in Surrey. The party did however gain constituencies along the county’s border however, including in Basingstoke and Aldershot.

This year’s election also saw Jeremy Hunt maintain his Godalming and Ash seat by an incredibly tight margin, narrowly beating the Liberal Democrats. In his acceptance speech, Hunt praised the magic of democracy and thanked his supporters for keeping the faith when every national opinion polls said the Lib Dems would win.
