When it comes to pizza we all have our favourites and here in Liverpool we’re certainly spoilt for choice.
While some people won’t have their heads turned from Domino’s, for others local pizza restaurants including American Pizza Slice and Dough are the ones to beat.
I’ve certainly tried many of the city’s most popular pizza places, with Rudy’s and Crust being my top picks - until recently.
After hearing nothing but good things, I decided to brighten up a dreary Friday night with a pizza delivery from Little Furnace on Smithdown Road and it certainly did the job. The restaurant has been getting huge compliments from people who have tried it, with one TripAdvisor reviewer saying it's "By far the best pizza in Liverpool".

I ordered via Deliveroo, choosing the Calabrian Sausage (£12.63) and Torino Sausage Sensationale (£16.62), plus a garlic bread with cheese (£5.80), pot of alioli (£1.50) and pot of Little Furnace Sauce, which is a rich tomato sauce with spices (£1.50).
The order was placed at 6.45pm and it said it could take until 8.30pm to arrive. Ours came at around 8pm and we were able to keep track of when it was on its way, using the Deliveroo app.

Little Furnace specialises in Neapolitan ‘wood fired’ pizzas, cooking them quickly in a wood fired oven on a high heat. The result, I found, was one of the tastiest pizza doughs I’ve had in Liverpool. It was soft and chewy, without being sloppy, and it mopped up the rich toppings.
The Calabrian Sausage pizza came topped with tomato, mozzarella, parmesan and ‘nguja sausage, which gave it a lovely spicy heat, without blowing my head off.
The Torino Sausage was topped with tomato, mozzarella, Turin fennel sausage, Gorgonzola, sun kissed tomato and balsamic onion. This was also delicious, though I found the Gorgonzola a bit overpowering at times, as there were quite large chunks of it in places.
The alioli was a good choice for dipping the crusts into, but it turns out we didn’t really need the Little Furnace Sauce as it was similar to the tomato sauce on top of the pizzas.

But I was certainly glad we chose to order a garlic bread as well, even though it did seem like carb overload. With the same tasty dough and smothered in garlic and cheese, it was salty and buttery, with more than enough for two to share.
When you finish a meal feeling stuffed but excited at the thought of the next time you can order from the same place, you know you’re on to a winner. Little Furnace has definitely taken the top spot for me when it comes to best pizzas in Liverpool.
