James Corden has addressed the claims that Carpool Karaoke is faked and insisted he is at the wheel driving the car "95%" of the time.

The British host of The Late Late Show was forced to break his silence and explain himself after a viral video shared online showing Justin Bieber's appearance on the popular segment exposed the truth of how it is created.

Fans were shocked to see Corden, 41, and Bieber, 25, being towed along by a rig, rather than actually driving themselves.

The shocking video led to allegations that the show is faked. However, Corden has denied the claims and mocked the accusations.

Opening Wednesday's episode of The Late Late Show, the Gavin & Stacey creator joked "This looks bad" but decried "fake news".

The telly star insisted he always drives the car unless there is a 'safety issue'.

Corden also joked about his box office flop Cats while poking fun at the media reaction to the video.

After reading headlines about the controversy, the funnyman said: "I'm just shocked I've done something that upset people more than Cats."

"95% of the time I really am endangering the lives of the world's biggest pop stars. But this is a TV show, not everything is real."

Corden, who has hosted The Late Late Show since 2015, continued to mock the controversy as he added: "Our show doesn't tape after midnight - we tape at 5pm and pretend that it's late."

Continuing his opening monologue, Corden, who often begins Carpool Karaoke by asking the celebrity guest to help him get to work, admitted that too is not true, saying: "Often, I'm at work already."

"I just thought we all knew this and I'm sorry that you were so deep into the reality of Carpool Karaoke," he said.

James continued to sarcastically explain the truth of the situation as he added: "But it's TV and sometimes we do stuff just for the sake of entertainment.

"But when it comes to Carpool, with very rare exceptions for safety, I'm driving the car. And I want credit for it. Because I was raised driving on a completely different side of the road."

The executive producer of the US talk show even decided to step into the fakery row in a last-ditch attempt to calm things down.

Taking to his Twitter account to address the claims this week, Ben Winston clarified the use of he rig and insisted James does drive.

In a series of tweets, Ben wrote: "James always drives during Carpool! Sometimes when there is a stunt component and its unsafe to drive, we will use a rig.

"We only use a rig when we are doing a 'stunt' as part of the Carpool - when it would be impossible for James to drive! This has occurred only maybe 4 times in 50 or so carpools... Safety is key!"

As fans continued to appear shocked by the exposing picture which suggested the telly star doesn't actually drive his guests around when they 'carpool', Ben explained further.

He detailed: "By stunt I mean - dance routines / costumes / props etc ! Dont worry too much though. I’m pretty sure there are bigger issues to worry about!"

For complete transparency, Corden finished talking about the controversial saga last night by admitting which Carpool Karaoke episodes he has used a tow truck in.

Meghan Trainor, Migos, Cardi B, Chance The Rapper and Bieber have all been towed along, the host said.

Carpool Karaoke has been a viral sensation and has seen stars including Adele, Celine Dion and Sir Paul McCartney join Corden in a car to sing a string of their hits.

The Late Late Show segment has been such a success it has been made into its own show on AppleTV.
