Emmerdale viewers were left on the edge of their seats this Christmas, as young April Windsor mysteriously disappeared from her home. New spoilers have hinted at what might have happened to the 15 year old, causing worry among her family members. The plot is set to thicken, with her father Marlon Dingle and their loved ones frantically searching for her. In a chilling turn of events, Marlon discovered April's empty room on Christmas Day following a recent argument.
With April feeling isolated and acting out recently, she got drunk and lashed out at her family. When Marlon checked on his daughter over the festive period, he was horrified to find her missing without a trace. As there are no leads on her whereabouts and no way to reach her, the search intensifies and fears escalate. Now, new teasers seem to shed light on why she disappeared - it appears she wasn't abducted but chose to run away.
The spoilers reveal that Marlon finds out his daughter ran away from home, choosing to disappear after weeks of torment. In forthcoming scenes, Marlon starts to uncover the heartbreaking reasons behind his daughter's decision to flee, reports the Mirror. Before long, he's learning things about his child that he had no idea about. It seems that April was leading a secret life that her father, and possibly others, knew nothing about.
As the plot develops, the reason behind April's disappearance from home will be revealed, leaving viewers wondering if something sinister is at play. In the upcoming weeks, Marlon, his wife Rhona Goskirk, and the Emmerdale community will join forces to search for April, fearing for her safety while holding onto hope that she will be found alive.
Marlon and Rhona will face the unbearable prospect of possibly never seeing their daughter again, a nightmare no parent wants to experience. Emmerdale collaborated with the charity Missing People to create this storyline, with Producer Laura Shaw stating: "Marlon has recently been struggling with his relationship with April but never imagined he would be in such a heartbreaking situation this Christmas.
"In the coming weeks, as the search for April intensifies, we explore the emotional turmoil a family faces when a young person goes missing. We are so grateful to the charity Missing People for their invaluable help and support with this storyline."
Kate Graham, Head of Communications at Missing People, said: "It has been an amazing experience to work with Emmerdale on this important storyline. The researchers were clear from the start that they wanted to ground the storyline in reality and in no way glamorise it. Everyone at Emmerdale, including the actors, have impressed us with their understanding of a very difficult subject matter, meeting with our team of experts, asking very relevant questions and really immersing themselves in the experience of both being missing and homeless, and also being the parents of a missing teenager."
She added, "We hope that as viewers watch this story unfold they are able to gain some understanding of what families with a missing loved one go through and why our charity exists to support those families, as well as anyone thinking of being missing, or anyone already away from home."
