🎨🌱 What an unforgettable experience at the #ArtUAQ Festival! A heartfelt thank you to Umm Al Quwain Department of Tourism and Archaeology, Art UAQ, Casa Mikoko Umm Al Quwain for organizing such a wonderful event! From mesmerizing art displays to hands-on environmental conservation activities, these two days were a perfect blend of creativity and advocacy for protecting the #UmmAlQuwain lagoon.   It was truly inspiring to see the community unite to celebrate the beauty of our mangroves and coastal ecosystems—reminding us all of the power of collective action in safeguarding these vital habitats.   🌿 Why do mangroves matter? They are more than just trees! Mangroves serve as powerful carbon sinks, protect our coastlines from erosion, and provide critical habitats for diverse marine life. That’s why our commitment doesn’t stop at restoration—we are now in the crucial monitoring phase, ensuring long-term success by tracking mangrove health and ecosystem recovery. Every other month, we return to these sites to assess growth, identify disturbances, and make necessary adjustments for lasting impact.   Reflecting on our incredible mangrove monitoring journey at #UAQMangroveBeach, we are overflowing with gratitude for our amazing partners who made this mission possible: Mastercard’s #PricelessPlanetCoalition for championing sustainability and bringing us together for a cause that truly matters. Thanks to this initiative, we've restored over 8 hectares of mangroves across three sites in the #UAE— with 6.5 hectares restored in UAQ alone! The #UAQ Government for their unwavering support as part of their Sustainable Blue Economy strategy, وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for providing the mangrove saplings since the project's inception, ensuring we have the resources to rebuild these ecosystems. Casa Mikoko Umm Al Quwain for always welcoming us with open arms and providing the perfect space for these conservation efforts.   💪 And last but certainly not least, our 60 dedicated #LeadersofChange volunteers who got their hands in the soil, monitoring saplings and surveying the local biodiversity—your dedication is shaping a more sustainable future!   Let’s keep nurturing and protecting our environment, ensuring that every action counts. Together, we ventured into the tranquil mangroves for a thrilling kayaking experience ended by a beach clean-up. #Didyouknow: A major driver of biodiversity loss and disruption of ecosystem services is land degradation. To restore terrestrial ecosystems, we plant native tree species and adopt water conservation and dry zone afforestation techniques, which increase the efficiency and sustainability of our conservation efforts. These techniques are implemented in partnership with the local community, as well as volunteers from our Leaders of Change program.
