“By embracing an ecosystem-based, science-backed approach that recognizes the importance of habitat connectivity, we are achieving measurable results in mangrove habitat restoration,” explains Marina Antonopoulou, our Chief Conservation Officer. Emirates Nature-WWF leads the local restoration of 50,000 mangroves and associated ecosystems in the UAE as part of Mastercard's Priceless Planet Coalition. Technology, collaboration and data are key drivers for #decarbonization. It is essential for organizations to gather reliable data to understand where they stand and to set credible Science Based Targets for emission reduction.   We’re proud of our Head of Climate Nadia Rouchdy for sharing the incredible progress that #UACA members are making towards decarbonization in support of UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 ambition. UACA - the UAE Alliance for Climate Action - convenes non-state actors in the private and public sectors to accelerate climate action & collaborative action towards the #ParisAgreement. The Global Islamic Finance Program (GIFP) attracted strong interest at #COP29 as WWF International President Adil Najam and industry stakeholders discussed the many opportunities Islamic Finance can unlock.   Grounded in values and purpose, Islamic Finance offers a unique perspective on the larger role of finance. GIFP taps into this deeper purpose and aligns with #IslamicFinance, providing a pathway for financial players across the Global South to be part of the movement to address nature financing.    The session took place in the UAE Pavilion, where panellists emphasized that GIFP and Islamic Finance can become one of the innovative finance vehicles that the wider community has been searching for. Not only does GIFP mobilize stakeholders from this crucial region, it also drives the origination and funding of Nature-based Solutions and bankable projects across the Global South. The time to act is now. In his keynote speech, Dr Najam urged participants to raise ambitions and act swiftly: when he first began attending COPs decades ago, the financial need was measured in thousands and millions. Today, that ask is in billions and trillions. “Climate adaption is something we need to focus on much more, and the time for that is now.” At the #DubaiFutureForum, our Director General Laila Mostafa Abdullatif highlighted the urgent need to scale up climate adaptation, and the tremendous opportunity to leverage Nature-based Solutions. Nature is a powerful ally against climate change, and we must act now to unlock its vast potential.
