🌍"It is essential to project the modernity of the Portuguese economy. While we have traditional sectors, we also lead in cutting-edge industries," emphasised Ricardo Arroja, President of AICEP, at the AICEP Delegates Meeting, an annual event held at the beginning of the year. “A country can only export what it produces, and we know that the key to GDP growth lies in productive investment,” he added.
The President also highlighted the need to focus on strategic sectors and areas of international specialisation, emphasising export-driven markets and the synergy between foreign capital and national know-how as critical growth drivers. “Internationalization and FDI are inseparable when it comes to strengthening the Portuguese economy,” he affirmed.
🚀 Held on January 6 in Lisbon, the AICEP Delegates Meeting brought together delegates from more than 50 global markets where the agency operates. It also served as a platform to foster connections between AICEP's External Network, companies, and industry associations, aligning efforts to address sector-specific challenges and presenting solutions to enhance the global competitiveness of Portuguese businesses. The roundtable discussions featured over 200 representatives from diverse sectors, including energy, agribusiness, automotive, metalworking, engineering, environment, and industry associations.
🏭 The Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, underscored the significance of 2025 as a pivotal year for both the global and Portuguese economies. He advocated for a European reindustrialisation strategy to accelerate growth. “If we demonstrate leadership, Europe has a place, and the Portuguese economy also has its space and path. While we did not ride the wave of industrialisation, we can lead in a sustainable economy,” the Minister remarked, referencing the transition to a “blue and green” economic model.
In the afternoon sessions, crucial topics such as renewable energy, addressed by Paulo Carmona (Directorate-General for Energy and Geology), and technological innovation, presented by António Grilo (National Innovation Agency), were at the forefront. These discussions reinforced the commitment to sustainability and innovation as pillars for the future.
The meeting solidified AICEP's position as a hub for strategic sectors and international markets, reaffirming its dedication to sustainable growth and strengthening the Portuguese economy.
