Gosh, after three weeks on the road I am finally at home, hanging out with my kids, doing my laundry and... planning my next trip! I first attended LocWorld in Monterey, CA, with my wing-woman Jorgelina Venturi (now on vacation). We did a fascinating tour of Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey with Winnie Heh and met a whole bunch of friends, both old and new, at the conference, which I will say was the best LocWorld I have ever attended (go Donna Parrish and Anne-Marie Colliander Lind). Then I went to Mexico City and met with David Mego and Saul Villegas Sojo to inspect the InterContinental El Presidente Hotel where Juntos - Association of Language Services of Latin America and the Caribbean will be celebrating its 3rd Annual Summit "VAMOS JUNTOS" on March 14-15, 2025. We had an amazing time and were highly impressed by the hotel and the cultural options (Frida Kahlo all the way!) and foodie options (wow!) in Mexico City. After 36 hours at home in Cordoba city I then took four flights (30+ hours each way) to attend the Intenational Translation Forum (https://lnkd.in/dQQef5pF), organized in Riyadh by the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia (KSA). Thanks to Hani Alotaibi, Hamad Aldossary, Amer Qobti, CT, and Adam Wooten (also a speaker at VAMOS JUNTOS) for all your guidance and friendship during my stay in Saudi Arabia. Highlights of my trip included visiting the historical district of Al Diriyah where KSA was first founded, meeting Hailah Alkhalaf, PhD, FHEA, General Manager of Translation at the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission of the Ministry of Culture of KSA and attending a local Saudi wedding where Adam Wooten and I dined on abundant camel meat and rice and drank Pepsi (it had been a while for me) alongside 60+ other men (men and women celebrate weddings separately in KSA). So where next you say? Well, first I will have a well earned lengthy vacation in the north of Patagonia and then in February... I will be speaking on behalf of tbo and tbotalent at the 5th Africa International Translation Conference (AITCO) in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on February 7-8, 2025. Wow! So excited! I was last in Zanzibar in January 2020, just one month before the Pandemic after attending the 2nd Africa International Translation Conference in Arusha, Tanzania. The 2020 AITCO conference was highly enlightening - I learned so much and was so humbled by the complexity and diversity of Africa and its languages, of which there are between 1200 and 3000 depending on how you count.
