Discontinuation of business of HELIOVIS AG HELIOVIS AG, an Austrian solar tech company, announces the discontinuation of all business activities. The company has developed a highly innovative, pneumatic solar concentrator (HELIOtube®) for the provision of emission-free process heat for the decarbonization of industry throughout the global sunbelt. Despite support from the EU and national funding bodies, consistently loyal investors, a large number of partners as well as reference projects in Spain and the Middle East, it was not possible to ensure the company’s further development. The main reasons include the consistent low level of industrial prices for fossil fuels in the target regions, the subsidized and therefore unrivalled production costs of photovoltaics from Asia, and the fact that effective CO² pricing exists only in Europe and only for a limited number of industries. HELIOVIS wishes to express its gratitude to all shareholders, sponsors, employees and its global partners for their joint efforts in developing this solar-thermal solution. The energy transition remains a global challenge and must be driven forward – now, unfortunately, without HELIOVIS. Wiener Neudorf, November 8, 2024 HELIOVIS AG

HELIOtube® is a smart pneumatic solar collector for the generation of clean industrial heat.
Info
HELIOVIS AG, a Vienna based start-up company, develops an innovative technology to use solar energy. The product is an inflatable solar concentrator, called “HELIOtube”, made solely out of inflated plastic foils. The pneumatic principle ensures a very efficient use of materials by its light weight construction. Furthermore, it gives stability and rigidity to the structure, in contrast to massive and hence expensive steel constructions as in the case of conventional parabolic troughs. As a result, the HELIOtube only needs about 5 kilograms of materials per square metre of concentrator surface. A parabolic trough in comparison weighs 130 kilograms per square metre of concentrator surface. Construction: The HELIOtube consists of a transparent upper, a reflecting middle and a robust lower foil. The reflecting foil separates the cylinder horizontally into two air tight chambers. Due to the pressure difference between the upper and lower chambers, the mirror foil is curved. The light enters first through the transparent upper foil and is then reflected and concentrated by the concave mirror foil onto the receiver. Advantages: The HELIOtube has the potential to reduce the costs of modern solar-thermal plants by 25 to 50 percent. The reasons for this advantage are the following characteristics: - Reduction of material usage of up to 95 percent - Light-weight structure with a cylindrical form with low wind resistance - Simple, fully automated production from reels

💧 The World's Freshwater Crisis: A Call for Sustainable Solutions With the world facing a serious and growing water crisis, access to freshwater is becoming increasingly scarce. According to the WWF, currently 1.1 billion people lack access to water and 2.7 billion experience water scarcity at least one month a year. By 2025, two-thirds of the world's population may be affected by water shortages. Factors such as climate change, population growth, and industrial expansion are intensifying pressure on water resources, making sustainable water management more crucial than ever. At HELIOVIS and at Trevi Systems, we are committed to addressing this challenge with innovative technologies that not only make water treatment more efficient but also environmentally sustainable. 🌱 How we make a difference: 1. Sustainable Water Recovery: Trevi Systems’ forward osmosis technology allows for high-recovery desalination and minimal liquid discharge (MLD), using mid-temperature thermal energy that can be supplied by renewable sources or waste heat. With significantly lower energy consumption than traditional reverse osmosis, Trevi’s technology can achieve high recovery rates, making it ideal for treating high-salinity waters and integrating with renewable energy sources. 2. HELIOtube Technology: By harnessing the power of the sun, our HELIOtube solar concentrators provide a cost-effective and low-carbon thermal energy source for water desalination, turning challenging wastewater into freshwater with no greenhouse gas emissions. 3. Real-World Impact: Our ongoing project in Oman demonstrates how combining renewable energy with advanced water treatment can provide clean water to communities, industries, and agriculture, reducing reliance on depleting natural freshwater sources. Together, we work for a world where water scarcity is no longer a threat but an opportunity for innovative and sustainable solutions. The global water treatment market is projected to grow from $323.32 billion in 2023 to $536.41 billion by 2030 (CAGR of 7.5%). The seawater and brackish water desalination market is set to reach $25.7 billion by 2028 (CAGR of 8.1%). HELIOVIS at the Middle East Produced Water Management Conference 2024 🌍 On September 23-24, HELIOVIS had the pleasure of participating in the Middle East Produced Water Management Conference in Dubai. The event was insightful and rich in content, highlighting the growing importance of managing produced water—a significant byproduct in the oil and gas industry with annual production in the MENA region alone exceeding 45 bn(!) barrels in 2023. As the name suggests, produced water is the highly saline, often toxic water that is extracted alongside oil. It contains residual oil, chemicals, and heavy metals, and its corrosive nature significantly affects oilfield infrastructure. With the growing volumes of produced water, especially from aging oilfields, the need for sustainable management solutions has never been more critical. This issue takes on even greater urgency in the Middle East, where water scarcity is a persistent concern, and the Arabian Gulf already has a salt concentration one-third higher than average seawater. This rising salinity impacts the performance of existing desalination plants, creating further pressure on regional freshwater supplies. At the conference, leading organizations shared their expertise through presentations, including SLB, OMV Petrom, Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC), ACCIONA, Trevi Systems, Al Shirawi, Clear Water Solutions, Kuwait Oil Company, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). The critical nature of produced water management is clear to all, and it was highly encouraging to see various approaches being explored. Together with our partners from TreviSystems, HELIOVIS is currently commissioning a commercial plant for the emission-free treatment of produced water on an oilfield in Oman. With this pioneering installation, we are at the forefront of technical innovation and hope to contribute to the pressing regional freshwater issue by offering a commercially attractive and environmentally friendly solution for the management of produced water. A big thank you to the event organizers and all the brilliant minds that shared their insights. 💧 #ProducedWater #WaterManagement #MiddleEast #HELIOVIS #OilAndGas #WaterReuse #Sustainability #WaterScarcity #EnergyTransition #Innovation
