Highly EFFICIENT and reliable electric drivetrains based on modular, intelligent and highly integrated wide bandgap power electronics modules. HiEFFICIENT aims for a resource-efficient and decarbonized transportation system, supported by the use of highly reliable and integrated wide-bandgap (WBG) technologies in electronic power circuits and systems of electrified vehicles and charging infrastructures. In the HiEFFICIENT project, 33 partners from 9 European countries are cooperating in this 3-year project with a total budget of 41 M€. The consortium of this project is an outstanding combination of well-known European industrial companies and research institutes, being located along the whole value chain, starting from semiconductors industry and ending up with OEMs. The project started on May 1st, 2021. HiEFFICIENT is driven by 10 industrial use cases (UCs). They include, amongst others, modular inverters with different voltage levels (such as 48V and 400V), flexible on- and multi-use off-board chargers for different voltage levels, multi-purpose DC/DC converters and test systems for power electronics’ lifetime testing. These UCs are led by OEMs and other industrial partners, who define requirements and specifications for the envisioned systems.

The project, involving 31 partners along the whole value chain, focuses on the use of wide-bandgap semiconductors for automotive applications, including inverters, chargers, and according testing solutions. During the meeting, we showcased the results achieved over the past three project years, highlighting innovative, efficient, and compact power electronic solutions for electric vehicles. These advancements support the European Green Deal's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, enhancing customer acceptance, reducing costs, and strengthening the European automotive industry.     It was a pleasure to participate in the #ToSVE (Towards the Sustainable Vehicle Era) workshop on November 8th! 👏 At ToSVE 2024 (https://lnkd.in/eNypHr-J), we showcased our advancements in traction inverter systems alongside an inspiring group of innovators and industry leaders. This event was a fantastic platform for meaningful exchanges with key collaborators, including partners from the EM-TECH project and HiEFFICIENT projects, as we work together toward innovating solutions in sustainable vehicle technology.     Advancing Sustainable E-Mobility: the 400V Dual Inverter by Ideas & Motion undergoes rigorous testing!   Our #DDMO400V640A1 dual traction inverter, developed through the EU HiEFFICIENT project, is designed to support sustainable e-mobility and drive forward next-gen Wide Band Gap (WBG) semiconductor technology—all aligned with the European Green Deal's sustainability goals. The unit has been distributed to program partners for multiple testing sessions: 👉 TDK Electronics AG (EMC Lab): conducting electromagnetic compatibility testing. 👉 Elaphe Propulsion Technologies Ltd.: evaluating performance characteristics. 👉 Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) - MOBI: thermal characterization under demanding conditions. Each of these tests moves us one step closer to delivering a reliable and innovative solution. Stay tuned as we pave the way for a greener future in e-mobility!     The state-of-the-art applicable OBC topologies are limited by the available commercial GaN power transistor glossary. Nevertheless, as the GaN technology matures, especially with the emergence of 1200 V rated and/or bidirectional GaN power transistors, applicable topologies will widen.
