Construction of Geelong’s largest hotel, the $120 million Crowne Plaza Geelong, has reached its highest point, marking a major milestone for the city’s newest tourism asset. Victorian Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney joined representatives from hotel developer Plenary Group, operator IHG Hotels & Resorts and other project partners on the rooftop to celebrate the topping out of the hotel’s structure and share their excitement for what’s to come when the hotel opens in 2026. The hotel is being full funded by Plenary and will be operated by IHG under the Crowne Plaza® Hotels & Resorts brand. When completed and operational in early 2026, the 200-room hotel will be Geelong’s largest, part of a total $250 million being invested by Plenary in the precinct in associated retail, commercial and mixed-use spaces. Plenary Group is also the lead proponent of the Plenary Conventions consortium delivering the adjacent $449 million Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre project. Plenary Conventions is contracted to finance, design, construct and maintain Nyaal Banyul for 25 years in partnership with the Victorian Government and its funding partners under the Geelong City Deal, the Australian Government and the City of Greater Geelong.       Our team has begun working hand in hand with Kapitol Group to honour the redevelopment of Melbourne’s iconic Lindrum Hotel.   A project close to our hearts, the redevelopment aims to celebrate Melbourne’s art-deco history, preserving the inimitable architectural details that reflect the site’s rich past — from its Griffiths Brothers origins to the famed Lindrum Hotel era.   As Kapitol highlights, the meticulous care taken to retain the Edwardian Romanesque Revival style, combined with cutting-edge digital engineering, ensures the seamless integration of old and new.   Resulting in modern offices embedded in Melbourne’s historic heritage but built for a vibrant future.   #TimeAndPlace #LindrumRedevelopment #Heritage #MelbourneArchitecture #KapitolGroup #ConstructionInnovation

Lindrum Redevelopment | Melbourne's Heritage and Community   The Lindrum site holds over a century of Melbourne’s history, evolving from its beginnings as the Griffiths Brothers warehouse in 1900, to a lively billiard hall managed by Dolly Lindrum, and later its transformation into the Lindrum Hotel in 1999. This iconic building, with its red brick façade and Arts & Crafts detailing, stands as a rare example of the American tall-arched Romanesque revival style—a distinctive Edwardian-era architectural style that has become part of Melbourne’s cultural landscape. In our redevelopment for Time & Place, we prioritised preserving the historic façade and architectural elements while integrating a modern office space that complements the building’s character. The façade retention features carefully crafted steelwork that supports the original structure, and our digital engineering expertise enabled a point cloud scan of the existing façade. This ensured seamless integration with the retention steel and new building model, avoiding clashes during the design phase. This project embodies our commitment to the stories, people, and places that have shaped the city, ensuring that the Lindrum site will remain a vibrant part of Melbourne’s future while paying tribute to its storied past.   Developer: Time & Place Architect: fjcstudio #Lindrum #LindrumRedevelopment #Construction #KapitolGroup #constructionsite

We're excited our construction partner for The Lindrum, Kapitol Group, has commenced demolition works last month.  Embracing digitisation across the construction process to streamline efficiencies, we're proud to retain the iconic building façade, which will seamlessly connect to a new visionary tower above. Built in 1900, 26-30 Flinders Street, Melbourne was at the forefront of innovation for the Griffiths Brothers headquarters and warehouse, one of Australia’s leading tea, coffee and cocoas sellers. Designed by Ward & Carleton, it is one of the first examples of the red brick American Romanesque architectural style in Melbourne.  A locally renowned destination, our redevelopment of Hotel Lindrum signals a new era for the historical Melbourne icon. We’ve powered up at the new Footscray Hospital, energising the first clinical areas, including the new Emergency Department 🤩 ⚡   It was a positively charged moment for the project team, who have all worked incredibly hard to achieve this milestone. It’s not quite as simple as switching on a light – to power up, works included hauling more than eight kilometres of mains cables from Power Authority substations in Footscray West and Footscray East to the authority high voltage rooms on site. This enabled the high voltage ring main to be powered on to the transformers and switchboards. From here, dead and live testing of each cable in the entire distribution zone needed to occur prior to turning on the lights and power permanently.   And some additional facts to spark your interest…Multiplex will install more than 30,000 data points, over 35,000 power points, 37,000 light fittings, 250km of sub-main cabling and over 400 distribution boards, mechanical switchboards, hydraulic switchboards and lift services switchboards before completion in 2025.   Keep up the energy team! #builttooutperform
