About us
AAUS - The Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems (AAUS) is Australia’s peak representative body for the unmanned systems / drone industry across land, sea, and air domains, and emerging urban air mobility sector. We are the largest and oldest not for profit representing the remotely piloted aircraft sector in Australia. Our objective is to promote a safe and viable unmanned systems industry through advocacy, outreach, networking, and professional services. We represent the complete spectrum of the drone industry, from small businesses to large multinational companies. Our members include individuals and companies operating, selling, producing or using unmanned systems, as well as organisations providing broader services and infrastructure to the sector. AAUS is also the preferred industry body for Defence-industry engagement. AAUS advocates on behalf of the entire industry and currently informing regulations on safety, privacy and security, and the development of new training programs. AAUS also runs a number of annual events to inform our advocacy efforts, educate, and provide opportunities for networking. We regularly meet with community and end-user interest groups as part of our education and outreach. AAUS also offers professional drone operators an independent (and free) professional endorsement program. AAUS members also enjoy discounted insurance. During 2024, AAUS was proud to enter a partnership with Airservices Australia to provide a scholarship fund to support Australia’s rapidly growing uncrewed industry. The purpose of the UAS Industry Scholarships is to foster greater participation and diversity of participants in the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) industry. The scholarship can be used to pay for costs of training and related activities undertaken by individuals to promote the benefits and generate interest in entering the UAS industry, or to gain additional qualifications or experience in the UAS industry, with a focus on increasing the diversity of those seeking to enter the UAS industry. During the first year of a five year program valued at $125,000, a total of seven recipients were awarded scholarships to gain or further their UAS qualifications. We extend our thanks to Airservices for providing us with the opportunity to award this scholarship. One of our most recent scholarship recipients is Celia Furt Since obtaining her RePL in 2020, Celia has become an active member of AAUS, putting her drone photographs in international photography contests, and winning awards. ‘Life is better from the air’ is her motto. Celia Furt may not be a commercial crewed pilot or a crewed staff member, but she has been a passenger on planes since she was 3 years old, roaming the skies of Europe and other continents. In 2007, she decided to get a taste the Australian skies. Celia took her first helicopter ride during a photographic trip in Namibia, Africa, in 2019. Then, in the Australian Photography Awards of 2020, one of her photographs, titled ‘U’, was announced as a Finalist. She soon decided to become an aerial photographer. To keep on progressing and deepen her knowledge of the industry, Celia applied and won the Air Services Australia scholarship so she could get her ReOC. She says, "getting this crucial certification will allow me to work for more clients by completing more complex drone operations". "With my ReOC, one of my main goals is to continue to educate Australian and international audiences by showcasing the beauty and uniqueness of undervalued, and unknown Australian seascapes and landscapes, and get drone photo art to fly over the radar". #drones #diversity #training
