We were pleased to host an informative session with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) on Tuesday 26th November. The session provided our members with an overview of NSW’s contaminated land regulatory framework and the NSW EPA’s role. Highlights included learning about how the EPA regulates contamination, and what resources and assistance are available for contaminated land consultants. It was also great to hear about and discuss the EPA’s Environmental Management Plan Practice Note, which aims to guide consultants and other persons in drafting plans suited to long-term management of contamination. A huge thankyou to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for developing the material and providing this session to our members. We look forward to further updates in 2025.

Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association (NSW) Inc. Representing contaminated land consulting firms in NSW.
About us
In 1995 ACLCA was formed in NSW to provide an informed balance to decision makers in Australia on matters associated with contaminated land management. ACLCA is strongly focused on the responsible management of contaminated land problems, minimising costs for cleanup while ensuring that no unacceptable human, environmental or financial risk is left for future generations to address. Based on current membership, and a number of membership applications currently being processed, our Association represents a diverse range of environmental consulting firms active in the assessment and management of contaminated sites in New South Wales. We also have state branches in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. During the past few years, the Association has been working on and has been invited to provide input into many seminars, workshops, technical documents and has been included on advisory committees. Our association is also committed to furthering the education and skills of our members and other interested parties through the provision of regular seminars and short courses. Training courses are open to members and non-members, however members are entitled to a discounted rate.

There are lots of events on at this time of the year, but members will not want to miss our last seminar of the year being held on Tuesday 26th November, as we have NSW EPA presenting on CLM regulatory framework and EPA's EMP Practice Note. This will be our last event for the year, so make sure you come along and join us for a great networking opportunity with plenty of drinks & nibbles at 5.30pm and the presentation at 6pm. A big thank you to JBS&G - An Independent Accredited Environmental Consultancy who are kindly hosting this event for us in their shiny new office. Looking forward to catching up with lots of members on the night!

After receiving some queries from non-members interested in attending this workshop, we've now extended bookings to enable non-members to register. There are now 2 booking links on the website, one for members and one for non-members, so make sure you use the correct link. Bookings are still open for members too, so get in quick before bookings close on Thursday!
With the impending release of NEMP 3.0 (which we have on good authority will be occurring early next year), a number of PFAS ecological investigation levels will reduce by an order of magnitude. Our prediction is that this will result in a greater need for PFAS ecological risk assessments, so register now for our 'Half Day Ecological Risk Assessment Workshop – the how to guide', presented by Belinda Goldsworthy (@EnRiskS) on Monday 11/11/24. For full details and to register to attend, go to our website. This training is currently open to members only but we are considering opening it up to non-members, so if you're not yet an ACLCA NSW member but interested in attending, contact us.

Our October seminar last night featured 2 very interesting presentations on the topic of ethics and morals in our industry. Loek Munnichs, CEnvP - SC kicked it off with a brief discussion on different accreditation schemes' requirements in this area and posed a few thought-provoking scenarios that prompted some discussion. Thank you to David Springer and Jason Scarborough for their eye-opening presentations which gave everyone lots to think about! Thanks also to WSP in Australia who hosted in their newly renovated office.
