"AIM Defence has beaten 15 anti-drone technology local and international companies to win CA$1 million (A$1.1 million) dollars from the Canadian Army. During a three-week contest that ended in mid-June, AIM Defence’s Fractl:1 high powered laser, integrated with an in-house developed AI tracking system, neutralised 30 drones at distances up to 1.5km away." This is a hugely proud moment for the AIM team, we're extremely proud of our collaboration with DRDC and our victory at the IDEaS Sandbox. It's the pinnacle C-UAS competition internationally and we're looking forward to coming back to defend our title in 2026. That’s fire! Innovators tested their ability to destroy ordnance carried under a drone, at the 2024 Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems Sandbox. In this test, AIM Defence used a laser to explode a can of spray paint carried by a drone, causing the green hue. #DefenceIDEaS #DefenceScience #Drones

The Australian Army is turning to directed-energy weapons as one-way of embracing emerging technology to counter off-the-shelf small multi-rotor uncrewed aerial vehicles. Recently at the Army’s At a Puckapunyal range in Victoria, AIM Defence nstrated its Fractl Portable High Energy Laser which is powerful enough to burn through steel and can track objects as small as a 10-cent piece travelling 100kmph a kilometre away. The laser is ‘silent, virtually motionless and soldiers can be taught to use it in minutes’, according to an article published by the Army. At the Puckapunyal demonstration, the team ‘hard killed’ a drone at 500m with a deployable prototype. Co-founder Jessica Glenn said: “It paints a pathway toward getting this novel wavelength to match similar ranges as our one-micron system, which is achieving 1.5km counter sensor and approximately 1km hard kill engagements.” #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing #defence #defenceindustry #antidrone #lasers

Australia has just demonstrated its first DEW, the Fractl Portable High Energy Laser. Notably the weapon only requires five minutes of training to operate and takes as much space as a suitcase, making it an extremely useful tool to add to any counter UAS arsenal.

We're so proud of our work with #RICO and JDI, it was thrilling for the team to spend time out on the range with tanks firing, .50 cals rattling, and lasers dropping drones from the sky. Directed Energy needs to be tactical to be effective, that's why we've invested so much time and energy in making Fractl smaller, smarter, safer, and more affordable. With the ADF now owning and training with a prototype unit we're excited to rapidly iterate on the system so that it's ready to protect the soldiers, sailors, and aviators who are in harm's way. We're extremely thankful for all of the help and support that we've gotten along the way to build a truly Australian Sovereign Capability together. It was a pleasure to talk at the Defence Connect Budget Summit at Parliament House. Making sure the voices and needs of SME’s are heard is vital for a healthy and truly sovereign ecosystem in Australia and I had a great time talking about this alongside Blacktree Technology Director Joel Nevin and Export Controls Australia Group COO Amy McDonnell. Special thanks to Sarah Cullens and Precision Public Affairs for the warm introduction of AIM Defence.
