Exciting milestone for Ambulance Tasmania! This station has room for up to 18 ambulances, contemporary training facilities and modern amenities to support our crews. A larger garage and direct access to the Brooker Highway ensure ambulances get on the road faster. Welcome to our newest graduate paramedics! 👋 Fifteen passionate and skilled new recruits have joined @Ambulance Tasmania, ready to serve communities across the state. Over the coming weeks, they will complete their induction before stepping into operational roles, supported by experienced mentors. Five will be based in the South, six in the North, and four in the North West. For Reinhard, who spent 23 years as a pilot – including a decade in aeromedical transfers -- this career shift was about connection. “I worked closely with Ambulance Tasmania paramedics and found that they were my people. I enjoyed the human connection with patients more than flying the plane, so I took the plunge. The training has been amazing, and the learning culture here is so positive.” Emma, a former registered nurse from Melbourne, is excited for the challenges ahead. “I’ve always been interested in paramedicine and love the idea of working in the community — rain, hail, or shine. Moving interstate is always challenging but the support has been incredible.” For Jemma, a South Australian who has always been involved in community work, paramedicine is a perfect fit. “It’s a huge responsibility, but it gives you such a strong sense of purpose. We’ve been thrown in the deep end -- but with a hug and a lifeboat – so we’re swimming, and we’re swimming good!” Join us in wishing them well as they start their careers on the frontline 🚑 #newparamedics #jobs #careers #ambulance #ambulancetasmania

Behind every rescue is a team of skilled professionals working together to achieve the best possible outcome. Pictured here with the patient are members of Ambulance Tasmania, alongside other first responders and healthcare teams who played vital roles in his journey from the Franklin River operation through to recovery at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Wishing him all the best as he continues his recovery back home.
An incredible story of courage, resilience and collaboration. The Lithuanian kayaker rescued from the Franklin River in November has been discharged from the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and is returning home. After becoming trapped between rocks while pack rafting with friends, he spent over 20 hours partly submerged in running water as emergency crews worked to free him. This complex multi-agency rescue operation involved the expertise and teamwork of Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania, Surf Life Saving Tasmania, @Rotor-Lift, and the Tasmanian Health Service. During his treatment at the RHH, the man met with some of the frontline crew members (pictured) to discuss his rescue and share his gratitude. Acting Secretary of the Department of Health, Professor Dinesh Arya, commended everyone involved, from frontline emergency services to acute hospital staff. “This gentleman experienced a life-changing ordeal in a country far from his home and family and has made a steady recovery," he said. “I applaud every individual who played a part in the rescue, as well as all staff who have been providing acute and ongoing care to the patient at the RHH over the past few months.” Wishing him all the best as he reunites with his loved ones and continues his journey of recovery and rehabilitation back home. #FirstResponders #EmergencyCare #CrossAgencyCollaboration #TasmaniaHealth #WildernessRescue #Recovery

Incredible teamwork and precision from our Critical Care and Retrieval crew 🚁 Check out this impressive footage of our Intensive Care Flight Paramedic, Rob Brittle, being winched onto the MS Europa 2 cruise ship – 120 nautical miles off Tasmania’s East Coast. Tasked by Australian Maritime Safety Authority in collaboration with Tasmania Police, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania team completed this medivac earlier this month, retrieving the patient in just 19 minutes. This significant distance required precise planning and calculations to ensure safe fuel margins and a successful outcome. Well done to all involved! #AmbulanceTasmania #Medivac #HelicopterRescue #InstensiveCare #FlightParamedic #AMSA #EmergencyResponse

Last month, Ambulance Tasmania took part in a Whole-of-System Trauma Simulation at the North West Regional Hospital. This training involved #emergency and #healthcare teams collaborating across four phases, from first responders attending a simulated motorbike accident scene, through ED and radiology, to the operating theatre. ▶️ This video showcases the pre-hospital ambulance response, filmed at the Burnie Ambulance Station. Loc (Intensive Care Paramedic Intern), Shane (Paramedic Intern), and Greg (Clinical Support AT) worked to provide critical care to our “patient” Peter, with realistic moulage enhancing the simulation. These simulations allow teams across the healthcare system to practice working together under pressure and build a shared understanding of trauma care. The debrief at the end provides an opportunity to reflect, learn, and strengthen our response to future emergencies. Thank you to all participants and facilitators for making this event a success! Working together ensures the best outcomes for Tasmanians when it matters most. #TraumaSimulation #EmergencyCare #TraumaCare #Teamwork #Collaboration #AmbulanceTasmania

Welcome aboard to our newest team members! 🚑 Last month, 16 qualified paramedics from interstate and overseas joined Ambulance Tasmania for their four-week orientation program. Soon, they’ll be hitting the road, delivering life saving care to Tasmanians across the State. Richard Green (pictured, second from left) relocated with his wife from Cairns to Launceston. He said: “These last three weeks have been quite intensive (…) but it’s been a good process with a really good team, and we’re looking forward to getting out there. “To me, it’s the best job in the world. You never know what you’re doing each day, and you get to help people in a time of need.” From mid-December, 12 paramedics of this cohort will be based in the South, one in the North, and three in the North West. These new starters are part of an exciting year of growth for Ambulance Tasmania, which has welcomed dozens of new paramedics in 2024. 📷 Pictured from L to R: Jordan Emery (AT Chief Executive), three new paramedic recruits during their orientation at Cambridge HQ – Lucy Chen (South), Josh Binger (North West) and Richard Green (North) – and Katrina Ostrenski (Director, Education). 👉 Interested in joining us?
