Prime Minister needs to kill off Nature Positive and consult properly. AMEC Chief Executive Warren Pearce writing in the The West Australian today, about the stalled and controversial Nature Positive legislation. Legislation that in its current form "Entrenches duplication in the environmental approvals processes between State and Federal Governments, which will add more time and costs to all projects." "Until the PM categorically puts this issue to bed, it’s a dark shadow that looms over industry and our economy." AMEC will continue its advocacy on the issue. AMEC site tour with Alcoa Australia in #WA 🦺 Yesterday we joined a group visit of Alcoa operations around the Northern Jarrah Forest in WA's South West. While the company plays a critical role in mining bauxite and supplying aluminium to the world, they are also continously evolving and improving their rehabilitation practices.🌱 As part of the site visit we had the opportunity to hear from the environmental team responsible for their ongoing rehabilitation efforts, including Luke Gossage - Environment Manager | Karin Bankin - Senior Biodiversity Advisor | Amber Pattinson - Monitoring & Handback Lead. Previously, the State Government required rehabilitation to primarily support a future timber industry. Over the past 40 years, that has evolved to a greater focus on ecosystem function and biodiversity values. Each year, thousands of tonnes of seed-rich topsoil and hand broadcast seed, as well as hundreds of thousands of nursery-raised Northern Jarrah Forest native plant species, are used in rehabilitation, which is targeted to reach at least 1000ha a year by 2027. 📸 1. Aerial showing a newly landscaped and planted area of rehabilitation surrounded by unmined forest. 📸 2. Luke explaining to the group the difference between a new rehab area of two years (left side) & the well developed 15 year rehab area (right side). Thanks to Jodie Read and Simon Shepherdson and the entire Alcoa Team for having AMEC along on this educational trip. 🙏 #Rehabilitation #SetForSuccess #Biodiversity
