We believe in a responsible and equitable transition to a low emissions economy as an opportunity for Australia

About us

The Australian Climate Leaders Coalition (CLC) is a group of cross-sectoral Australian corporate CEOs supporting the Paris Agreement commitments and setting public decarbonisation targets. Its purpose is to provide a common voice on why big business is seeing decarbonisation as a way to ensure long term economic sustainability – and how they can have an impact and realise competitive advantage through early action in an apolitical and non-confrontational manner. The CLC is action orientated and provide an open, confidential and authentic forum for CEOs to share the challenges of their decarbonisation journeys. It is inclusive and provides information and case studies for those CEOs not yet taking action and wanting to understand their options. An initiative of the B-Team Australasia, the Australian CLC is a group of CEOs of leading Australian organisations including publicly listed, private and NGOs. The CLC has 22 Founding Members of which Chief Executives have so far signed the original joint statement, which commits their organisations to take voluntary action on climate change. By joining the CLC, members have made the following commitment: For the viability of our businesses, for the generations after us and for the country we love, we are ambitious for action on climate change. If we act now, we can forge a path to create a future that is low-emissions, positive for our businesses and economy, and inclusive for all Australians. We are committed to playing our part to make that future real. If we don’t, our competitiveness is at risk. We support the Paris Agreement & Australia’s commitment to it, including the objective to keep global warming to well below 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels

  • We were delighted to be asked to speak at the CSIRO ‘AI for Climate Symposium’ earlier this month, where our Executive Director, Beth Dowe joined panellists from Microsoft, Fujitsu and Google to discuss ‘AI Solutions for Government and Industry Climate Issues’.   It was refreshing to hear more about the positive, productive applications of AI in combatting climate-related issues, all the more so in an environment in which extreme weather events are increasingly threatening critical infrastructure.   Fostering cross-sector collaboration remains key to accelerating the response to climate issues. The effective deployment of AI tools that support such collaboration is an exciting and fast-moving development that looks set to reshape our approach to the challenges ahead.   Our thanks to the CSIRO for inviting us to be part of such a fascinating discussion. #csiro

  • Great to see CLC Executive Director, Beth Dowe, speaking at today’s MEGATRANS, discussing the practical steps needed to create a sustainable heavy vehicle fleet of the future.   Collaboration through the supply chain builds a powerful business case for the shared opportunity that comes from co-developed technology, process, and infrastructure. And Australia’s geography means there are few sectors where that is more important than haulage.   Our proof of concept work in this space has become a catalyst for broader market engagement on the topic, and our thanks to Zed Ivankovic, Sandra Lau, Lauren Pulitano and Shaun O'Flaherty for making it such a fascinating discussion, today.

  • Today, half of our global economy depends on natural resources that are in decline. And yet, for many organisations, Nature has not been a priority focus as they manage their response to climate, energy and shifts in stakeholder expectation. At last week's Climate Action Week, we introduced NatStart to an audience of online participants. NatStart is a zero-cost digital tool that helps companies navigate through the priority touch-points between its operations and Nature. Designed to support the development of a business case that mitigates the risks associated with an organisation's impact and dependency on Nature, NatStart prompts qualified investigation into how that can channel an informed business case to manage those risks and unlock opportunities. Our panellists, Sally Townsend (Blackmores Group), Damon Tweedie (EnergyAustralia) and Kylie Ashenbrenner (Wesfarmers) provided some exceptional insights into the urgent need to address the critical relationship between an organisation and Nature, and to take action now knowing that we can't get to net zero without nature-based solutions. One of the biggest impediments to getting started is often a corporate discomfort with being uncomfortable. With the release of NatStart, we are taking steps to remove that discomfort. • As many CEOs accelerate their organisation’s decarbonisation journey, understanding the true cost of carbon to their business has become a priority.    Strategic carbon pricing is a key part of that journey, acting as a lever to drive behavioural change and to actively align the organisation with its sustainability and climate change goals.   The release of our Carbon Pricing for Decision Making playbook is designed to support leaders as they take meaningful steps to address their carbon footprint by developing and applying an internal carbon price. Aligned to other guidelines we’ve made available over the past 12 months it provides practical advice on the steps required to reach carbon neutrality and to foster an operational culture of environmental stewardship.   The Climate Leaders Coalition’s Carbon Pricing for Decision Making playbook is now available on our website. It’s essential reading for business leaders everywhere! #ventia #ashurst #aurecongroup #wesfarmers https://lnkd.in/g857AFBS

  • Today we’re releasing our ‘Towards a Circular Australia’ Playbook – a comprehensive guide that sets out unified circularity principles and the substantial, scalable changes required to reshape production and consumption mindsets. The rapid advancement toward a Circular Economy requires a significant shift in both corporate and societal perspectives. That’s why we wanted our Playbook to focus on real-world applications. We explored three sectors - Soft Plastics and Circular Packaging, Perishable Food Waste, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel – looking at their potential to demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of circular strategies in addressing some of today's most pressing environmental challenges. A re-evaluation of entrenched norms around production, consumption, and waste, is challenging. It demands a reimagining of community choices, business operations, and national economic competitiveness, yet it's essential for achieving the targets of the Paris Agreement. But the transition to a Circular Economy also reveals untapped economic, environmental, and social benefits that remain elusive within a linear framework. The principles of circularity are crucial; without them, neither businesses nor economies can fulfill their pledges to transition towards net zero. Acknowledging the complexity of this endeavour, the Climate Leaders Coalition initiated a deep dive into the circular economy to explore its potential and the collective efforts needed to shift our business paradigms. "Towards a Circular Australia" Playbook is a result of that effort. By sharing this playbook, our hope is that it serves as a catalyst for change. Whether you are a business leader, a policymaker, or an individual passionate about sustainability, this playbook offers the tools and inspiration to take meaningful steps towards a more circular and sustainable future for Australia. #nestleaustralia #coles #accentureaustralia https://lnkd.in/geYA2YDG
