Champions Australian ATAS travel businesses that employ more than 25,000 people to connect Australians to the world
About us
The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) is the peak body for Australia's travel businesses and represents over 80% of all travel distributors and tour operators in Australia. Founded in 1957 as the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA), the association rebranded to ATIA on 15 August 2023 to better reflect the diverse travel community. Our aim has been to stimulate, encourage and promote travel, and to uphold the interests of travel agents and their business who form a vital part of Australia's highly specialised travel and tourism industry. ATIA also manages the Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS) accreditation scheme which was established 2014, to be the industry standard for all travel businesses.

Dean Long is making multiple appearances in the media this morning to reassure the travelling public about the safety of travelling to #Fiji in light of a suspected alcohol poisoning incident. The message is clear - this is a one-off incident and shouldn't affect anybody's travel plans this Christmas. There's never been a better time to book with one of our #ATIA members for great advice and peace of mind. Find one of our members on atas.com.au

A reminder that **everyone** travelling to New Zealand needs to complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD). The NZTD collects travel, customs, immigration, and biosecurity information and aims to improve the safety and security of New Zealand. It’s FREE and needs to be completed for each traveller, including babies and children, and once submitted it's automatically linked to your passport for a smoother airport experience. You can start a digital declaration at a time that suits you, however the earliest you can submit it is 24 hours before you start your trip to New Zealand - giving you the best opportunity to correctly identify what you have packed in your bags. For more details visit the website https://lnkd.in/g_yD6yUX, where you can also download the dedicated NZTD App. #travelindustry #newzealand

#ATIA CEO Dean Long today provided evidence to the Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee on the changes to #Sydney #Airport Act. #ATIA supports the Bill and called on the Parliament to urgently pass it to allow airlines to fly an additional 5 flights per hour for two hours where delays occur into Australia's most important airport. #ATIA detailed that with just 5% of people who had their flights cancelled and ultimately cancelled their trip it costs the Australian economy $405m annually. #Travel #Aviation #tourism #reform #auspol

Richard has just arrived back from the inaugural Club Med Home Based Agents (HBA) conference at Club Med Bali Nusa Dua. This innovative concept brought together more than 60 home-based travel advisors for four days that featured a stellar lineup of keynote speakers including Kristina Karlsson, Evie Farrell, Jorge Fernandez GAICD - Applied Sense and Belinda Jennings. The afternoons were free to leave plenty of time to soak up the resort (and, let's be honest here, work on client bookings by the beach and at the pool!) For our part we enjoyed connecting with the advisors, sharing some of the Australian Travel Industry Association's recent announcements and talking about the importance of accreditation in a world where clients will increasingly look for assurances of quality and trust. The conference ended by meeting children from the Bali Life Foundation, whose shelter looks after those who have been orphaned, abandoned, abused, exploited or rejected. This included some really generous donations from the advisors, many of whom who'd gone *considerably* over their baggage allowances on the flight over, laden with schoolbags, stationery and other gifts. Our sincere thanks to the Australian team at Club Med for putting on a fabulous few days, especially Michelle Davies, Lisa Bacon and Chiara Burdo #HBAxClubMed #travelindustry
