Assisting Australian and New Zealand charities with estate administration outsourcing and education
About us
Bequest Assist provides Australian charities with estate management outsourcing services - freeing up their time to focus on donor care, while we worry about communications with solicitors, procuring key documentation and handling legal and financial complications such as share transfers and contests. Even if you are only receiving one bequest a month, chances are you’re spending too much time dealing with estate administration and missing out on Gifts in Wills income. Contact the Bequest Assist team to discuss how outsourcing your estate administration can revolutionise your Gifts in Wills program – and ensure your bequestors’ final wishes are fulfilled.

Where better to advocate for probate reform and estate management revision than in Canberra? The 2024 Legacy Lunch: Inspiring and Securing Charitable Gifts in Wills delivered these powerful messages to a full house at the National Portrait Gallery. We explored the growing issue of unfulfilled charitable bequests, with staggering research showing that 1 in every 100 charitable gifts in a will never reaches the intended cause (and that's only from the bequests we are told about.) Andrew Atkinson shared his profound experience as a UN Peacekeeper and the personal reason behind his decision to leave a bequest, while estate lawyer Rohani Bixler discussed some of the legal challenges hindering the realisation of gifts in wills. These obstacles, which can be resolved, could unlock tens of millions of lost dollars for important causes. The event was opened with a Welcome to Country by local leader Selina Walker. FIA CEO Katherine Raskob MIM, GAICD set the tone for the day highlighting the vital contribution of bequest fundraisers. We also heard from Morgan Koegel, who presented key findings and recommendations from Bequest Assist Pty Ltd’s nationwide research into missing gifts, and Philanthropy Australia CEO Maree Sidey, who emphasised the power of charitable bequests in her closing remarks. Special thanks to Include a Charity’s Helen Beeby for emceeing the event, as well as Rhiannon Mooney and Philanthropy Australia’s Rebecca Moriarty for their invaluable contributions. The full report will be published in November. #probatereform #legacy #charitablegifts #politicians Fundraising Institute Australia Philanthropy Australia Children's Medical Research Institute Australian Cancer Research Foundation Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

Thanks to Include a Charity AUS, Morgan Koegel will be presenting on one of our favourite estate administration topics: Capital Gains Tax (CGT)! Come along on the 9th October to learn more about why this is a key issue for all charities that receive Gifts in Wills to understand and take action on. Hope to see you there!
While Capital Gains Tax (CGT) might not sound exciting, Morgan Koegel from Bequest Assist Pty Ltd believes it’s the single most important estate issue for charitable Gifts in Wills managers to understand. Each year, charities miss out on millions of dollars due to incorrectly handled CGT—but there is a solution! In this webinar, we’ll cover what CGT is, when it becomes an issue in estates, and what steps Gifts in Wills team members can take to ensure their charity receives every cent that generous bequestors intended. No prior knowledge is necessary, and invite other team members who might benefit, such as finance team members or senior philanthropy managers. Include a Charity AUS and Philanthropy Australia are seeking expressions of interest for a ‘Legacy Lunch’ on 10 October 2024 in Canberra. This event will focus on charitable bequests in Australia, aiming to inspire more such gifts and ensure their fulfilment. Bequest Assist will be revealing results from their latest research into why some bequests are promised but never delivered. The hosts hope to explore themes such as sharing inspiring stories of charitable gifts, advocating for necessary policy reforms, advancing education on the topic, and engaging Ministers of Parliament. If you know anyone from your organisation who is based in Canberra and would like to attend, please share these details with them. Additionally, if you know of any confirmed bequestors who would be interested in speaking, please email includeacharity@fia.org.au
