Papillary fibroelastomas (PFEs) are now believed to be the most common benign primary cardiac tumors, with increasing incidence due to improved detection by echocardiography. We present a fascinating case of a 69-year-old woman in whom a large, hypermobile cardiac mass within the left atrium (LA) caused significant mitral stenosis (MS) and mitral regurgitation (MR). In light of such an unusual finding and the underrecognized risks of embolic phenomena with PFE, we review existing evidence to support decisive surgical management and highlight areas in which further study is needed. High blood pressure is often called the silent killer because it has no symptoms but is a main contributor to the development of heart disease, stroke, dementia and kidney disease. To know if you have high blood pressure, you have to measure it. Measuring blood pressure requires following specific steps each time. Your blood pressure naturally changes depending on what you are doing or how you are feeling. By following the same steps each and every time you can compare across readings to get a better understanding of your health. Our recent work found that people in Australia don't follow these steps when they measure their blood pressure at home. Very few people received any advice or guidance on what steps to follow. Better education could improve how people measure their blood pressure and, more importantly, how they manage their health. I'm extremely proud of this work and the amazing team behind it. Especially superstar PhD candidate Eleanor Clapham. Thanks to Dean Picone Alta Schutte PhD FESC ISHF FRSSAf. Last month one of our Rural Medi-Flights took to the skies, flying Heart of Australia’s dedicated health professionals from Brisbane to Miles. On board were Dr. Daniel Lancini (cardiologist), Ben (cardiac sonographer), and clinical trial nurses Sam and Tiki. Their mission? To deliver specialized cardiac care and clinical trials to rural patients who otherwise face significant barriers to accessing these critical health services. Since the launch of Rural Medi-Flights, Angel Flight Australia’s partnership with Heart of Australia has made an incredible impact. Together, we’ve flown over 50,000 kilometers, bringing life-saving medical expertise and resources to communities in need. These flights demonstrate our shared commitment to ensuring that distance is never a barrier to healthcare. #angelflightaus #heartofaustralia #ruralmediflights #ruralhealthmatters

Old friends and new…. Great to catch up with Dr Linda Worrall-Carter and Dr Nicola Straiton and delighted to meet Anastasia Mihailidou at the first Her Heart Australia conference in Sydney today. #Sex #Inequity in #CVD is alive & well in Australia! - just like in most parts of the world, but it was great to hear from some of the champions of equality as they shared examples of their innovations in #Womens #HeartHealth Global Heart Hub National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC) John William (Bill) McEvoy
