#EquitableAccess 🌤️ We’re reflecting on milestones reached and lessons learned in 2024 in our mission to tackle the unjust differences in children’s health, development and wellbeing 📄 https://lnkd.in/g2hp_aYu One significant milestone was the release of the National Child and Family Hubs Network Strategy 2024 – 2029. #ChildAndFamilyHubs 🌈 provide a welcoming ‘front door’ for families to access a range of services, supports and social connections. There’s a growing body of evidence that #Hubs can improve child health and educational outcomes, and support families to access quality services and supports equitably. The strategy will guide work over the next five years to provide greater support to Child and Family #Hubs🌈 across Australia. Read the strategy now 📑 https://lnkd.in/g2hp_aYu It was also exciting to see Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership and ARACY release a new framework to guide the design and delivery of Child and Family Hubs! Great to use our 12 year experience from our Victorian child hearing loss biobank (#VicCHILD) to partner with The Ear Science Institute Australia in this project! Our recent publication https://lnkd.in/gW7V4fkX led by Dr Jing Wang used >2000 saliva samples from Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI)’s #Checkpoint and #VicCHILD #Lifecourse cohorts to study child hearing polygenic risk, which could be used for clinical risk prediction in the future. We look forward to the partnership to increase the power of prediction and personalised medicine for deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. The Ear Science Institute Australia has announced the development of Australasia’s first biobank dedicated to advancing genetic therapies for hearing loss. This initiative, in collaboration with leading researchers and institutions, aims to provide a valuable resource for studying genetic hearing loss and improving treatment options. The biobank represents a significant step forward in hearing health research and personalized medicine. #HearingHealth #HearingLoss #GeneticResearch #GeneTherapy #Otolaryngology #Audiology Elaine Wong, Christo Bester, Dr David Sly, Perth Children's Hospital Foundation, PATHWEST LABORATORY MEDICINE WA, The Royal Children's Hospital, Valerie Sung, Jose Antonio Lopez Escamez, Andrew Pipingas, Benjamin Wei https://lnkd.in/gyyZCkz7

So important to see robust papers that are able to both underscore the importance of positive mental health ( it’s not one minus mental illness) AND understand the epidemiology across countries. Much to learn from both international comparisons and COVID. Special shout out to Dr Meredith O'Connor and Steven Hope who are the wonderful researchers leading this paper and our international collaboration. Food for thought about next steps for effective and equitable interventions for healthier populations. #childhealthequity Centre for Community Child Health Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) Imperial College London

🤝 #SNAPSHOT How can data-based decision making support #PlaceBasedInitiatives? 📄 https://bit.ly/41EHUdn Using the right #data effectively fuels better collaboration, more targeted interventions and in turn, better outcomes for children and families. A number of barriers – such as not having access to the right data, poor data infrastructure and limited capabilities - can make difficult for place-based initiatives to effectively use data to inform their decision making. Find out about the barriers that hinder the use of data and how using #LeadIndicators can drive change in communities in the latest #ResearchSnapshot from #RestackingTheOdds 📈 https://bit.ly/41EHUdn In our recent #webinar, early years services around Australia discussed how they use lead indicators to drive equitable outcomes in their communities. Really excited for the next 5 years of funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for me to continue our team’s research at Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) Centre for Community Child Health The Royal Children's Hospital University of Melbourne that aims to help all deaf and hard of hearing children reach their best potential and live fulfilled lives. We are developing the Australian National Child Hearing Health Registry #ANCHOR https://lnkd.in/gvy-6BKe to connect child deafness services and data across the country to enable population scale research and health systems quality improvement. We are also finding the best evidence based ways to scale up screening for congenital CMV to prevent its impacts on child development and hearing https://lnkd.in/gKciPE52 Grateful for my fabulous team: Libby Smith Kayla Elliott Zeffie Poulakis Jing Wang Melissa Wake Whitney Q. The latest round of National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants will fund brain stimulation treatment for #tinnitus, and novel #OtitisMedia therapies including gel medication to prevent repeat #grommet surgery. The slow-release gel-based medicine, delivered as a single dose at the time of a child’s first grommet surgery, aims to target persistent #bacteria that hide in the biofilm in their ears and eradicate underlying infection. A third grant will fund precision medicine for chronic suppurative otitis media using #bacteriophages, natural predators of bacteria which are everywhere including the nose, skin and gut. The research projects will share in $274 million granted to 223 researchers and their teams through the NHMRC Ideas Grants scheme. The story also reveals an NHMRC Investigator Grant has been allocated to investigate population approaches for prevention, diagnosis and management of childhood #HearingLoss. Researchers will use a national child hearing #registry that links routinely collected data from different hearing services and large research studies, together with collaborations with families with lived experience. ⚠️ New evidence! ⚠️ We might want COVID-19 in the rear-view mirror, but its significant and unequal impacts on children and young people cannot be ignored. When COVID-19 struck, longitudinal studies from LifeCourse: A Melbourne Children's Initiative united to explore its effects on children, young people, and families. Our new analysis has revealed that children and young people facing socioeconomic disadvantage before COVID-19 experienced: - Greater COVID-19-related worries - More negative emotions - Increased family economic difficulties - Fewer positive life changes By continuing to track children and young people’s health and wellbeing, we can better understand their resilience and recovery in the years to come. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gpptMQQH A team science effort only possible with co-authors Katherine Lange, Marnie Downes, Margarita Moreno-Betancur, David Burgner, Naomi Priest, Valerie Sung, Stephanie Brown, Deirdre Gartland, Kirsten Perrett, Sharon Goldfeld, Craig Olsson, and many others collaborating on the LifeCourse-COVID-Wellbeing project. #Research #COVID19 #Children #Youth #PsychosocialImpacts #MentalHealth #SocioeconomicDisparities #PublicHealth #HealthInequality
