This morning, we announced the winners of our 2024 Organisational Values Awards, which are based on the City's organisational values: Supportive, United, Bold, and Impactful. 49 staff members were nominated for the Values Awards, and six winners were announced. We also announced winners of the Organisational Safety and Team Awards, the Team Organisational Values Award, and recognised staff who have reached significant service milestones of 5, 10, or 15 years at the City. Congratulations to our Cultural Services and Recreation Services teams (pictured) for winning team awards, and to all individuals who were nominated or won an award. These awards are peer-nominated, and provide an annual opportunity to thank those who go above and beyond in their roles at the City.

The numbers are in - almost 48,000 people flocked to Subiaco for No More Blank Walls Subi! The 10-day street art festival saw artists from here and abroad paint 11 brand-new murals that have splashed colour onto previously blank walls across our City. The festival also featured unique events like live mural battles, art workshops, and mural walking tours. Close to 100 per cent of attendees surveyed had a positive experience, with many sighting that they enjoyed the ‘quality and creativity of the street art/murals’. This morning, the City's Reconciliation Action Plan working group participated in an Aboriginal Cultural Walking Tour at Mooro Katta Gar-Up (Kings Park). Guided by Nyungar Tours, the group explored the gardens of Kings Park while learning about Whadjuk Country through traditional stories, truth-telling, and the Dreamtime. They also discovered the significance of medicinal plants, bush foods, and the enduring connection to Country held by the Nyungar people. As part of their work, the group strive to bring the City's Reconciliation Action Plan to life; fostering understanding and helping to close the gap in health and wellbeing between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Last week, we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Sundowner, and honoured Sylvia Wright with the Volunteer of the Year Award for her almost 20 years of volunteering service with the City. Sylvia currently organises the weekly Seniors Coffee Club catch-up, and is an advocate for the City's Positive Ageing program. Mayor David McMullen said, "Each of the City's volunteers - whether they volunteer with us directly, or with other community organisations operating within our district - play a vital role in creating community." This week, we held our inaugural Industry Insights Series luncheon for Subi's buzzing creative industry sector. The event was designed as an interactive 'think tank'; an opportunity for local business owners and workers to chat all things Subi and business...now and into the future. Thanks for everyone who joined in the luncheon. Ideas were flowing and it was great to be able to connect.

"Remembrance Day is an appropriate time for us all to remember our country's past and pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice or simply just survived. There are about 280 names on the Fallen Soldiers' Memorial behind me, reminding us of the sacrifice made by Subiaco in the First and Second World Wars." - Peter Hopper, President of the Subiaco-Shenton Park RSL Sub Branch. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Rankin Gardens for our Remembrance Day Service this morning. Lest we forget.
