I am so proud to announce that Alton’s Ultralight Bug Net Tent has been named a 2024 Australian Good Design Award Winner. Accepting this award last week was a huge moment for me, not just professionally but personally. It feels like yesterday that I was sitting in an accounting office, daydreaming about starting my own outdoor gear business. Fast forward a couple of years to when I quit my day job and put everything I had into Alton. Those early days were full of excitement – and uncertainty. I still remember packing orders in my garage and lining up at the post office to ship them off, hoping that my gear would make a difference to someone setting off on an adventure. Today, the Alton HQ might be a little nicer, but our mindset remains the same: go further. Because it is only through taking that first step, then another and another, that we eventually become capable of the things that were beyond our reach when we first started. I think that’s what makes this award so meaningful. To me, it is a testament to everything it took to get here: grit, passion and, above all else, an unwavering commitment to walking our own path. To my team, it’s your dedication, vision, and relentless pursuit of quality that have brought us here. None of this would be possible without your brilliance and hard work.
