  • Last week Super Bowl may have been won by the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Kansas City Chiefs weren’t the only losers. Did you know that in 2021, Super Bowl ads emitted as much CO2 as 100,000 US residents, totaling around 2 million tons into the Earth's atmosphere?! From the energy required to power stadiums, to the travel expenditure and food waste, sporting events can cause a substantial environmental footprint. But, with careful management and planning, this can change. In our upcoming webinar hosted by Sports Environment Alliance we unpack the complexities of managing emissions, regulation changes and operational requirements. We'll provide the insights you need to know to take meaningful action on measuring, reporting and reducing your emissions in your facility. Our expert speakers include:  Adam Cheyne, CEO, Sports Environment Alliance Adam Luscombe, General Manager South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre, YMCA Victoria Liam Gulliver, Sales Manager, Everclime Tai Lennon, Managing Director, Climate Zero It’s on Thursday, 27th February at 1pm AEST ⏰Register and join the movement towards a more sustainable sporting future. 🔗https://lnkd.in/gexs2DvM #SustainableSport #ClimateAction #SportingFacilities #Scope3Emissions

Meaningful climate action for businesses doesn't mean that it's going to cost the business to invest in programs to reduce emissions. In a lot of cases, action on climate change can mean a reduction in costs for a business and an increase in revenue. A recent survey of over 4000 CEOs was taken by PwC and they were asked about the financial impact of "climate-friendly investments" undertaken in the last five years. "One in three CEOs report that climate-friendly investments made over the last five years have resulted in increased revenue"‼️ Two thirds said that climate friendly investments had "either reduced costs or had no significant impact" 👉 A summary of the climate related content can be found here. https://lnkd.in/gsvw6Snd 👉 Check out the full report from PwC here. https://lnkd.in/dw82sGNB. It goes into a lot more detail and includes all the other questions CEOs were asked. An interesting read for sure! Measuring emissions with Climate Zero will show where there are opportunities to reduce emissions and save money where efficiencies can be made. Have a chat with Tai, Pete or KB to find out just how easy it is to capture your businesses carbon emissions.

  • A great way to start the week - sharing this thoughtful perspective from our MD, Tai, on their recent trip to Southeast Australia with Carbon Neutral to experience their reforestation projects Carbon offsetting and credits are back on the political agenda and in the media. There is certainly a need for them as long as the high integrity and co-benefit claims are legitimate. #netzero #reforestation #decarbonisation #carbonoffsets #carboncredits

🌱 There’s something about standing among thousands of recently planted seedlings that evokes a sense of new beginnings. It’s easy to be cynical about carbon offsets. I get it.  Emission reduction must be the priority to reach net zero, but carbon credits do have an important part to play to make this a reality. Unfortunately, not all credits are created equal and not all projects deliver what they promise. That’s exactly why last week, Jess Symes and I went to see them first hand. We visited some of the reforestation projects that Climate Zero has carefully selected, projects developed by Carbon Neutral, Australia’s leading reforestation carbon project developer. These projects don’t just generate carbon credits. ➡️ They restore native landscapes. ➡️ They preserve biodiversity.  ➡️ They permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere.  But put simply, they are about protecting and planting trees. It’s one thing to talk about carbon sequestration in theoretical terms. It’s another to stand on the land and see the transformation with your own eyes. 📜 Take their Wilyun Pools project for example - nearly 1.2 million trees and shrubs have been planted over the past decade across 300 hectares. More than just carbon sequestration, this project empowers Indigenous ownership, restores ecosystems, and drives sustainable economic growth, protected under a 100-year covenant. And then there was this moment in the third photo attached.... Standing between two properties, one protected, the other recently cleared. One thriving, the other erased. A stark reminder of the choices we make. 🌳 Carbon markets can be complex. But at their core, some things are simple, when planting trees there are no regrets. Spending time on Country, with passionate experts like Phil Ireland and Nevin Wittber who are making this happen, was a grounding experience. It reinforced what we already believed; carbon credits should never be a blind transaction. This is why we work directly with project developers, not just as resellers picking from a long list of options. We choose integrity over price and convenience. If you’re serious about emission reductions, your offsets should be as real as your commitments. #netzero #reforestation #carboncredits #carbonaccounting #decarbonisation

  • Our Product Manager KB (Katherine) Buzza is kicking off the first Product Anonymous Meetup for the year on February 20. Hosted by Chargefox another great Australian software company on 'a mission to create a cleaner future for all Australians by reducing road transport emissions' 👏. The talk will be focused on digital sustainability and explaining the carbon emissions created by the technology sector. The aim is to empower local digital creators to embed 'green software' principles into their products. 'As artificial intelligence is baked into products and GPTs become ubiquitous in our work, the impact on the environment should be factored into our decision-making. This discussion will present some of the frameworks of digital sustainability and help the Product Anon Community understand what carbon emissions they can abate through thoughtful design and investment.' It is important that all organisations, big and small, understand the importance of representing their businesses correctly from a sustainability lens. "There has been an increase in investor demand for, and the availability of, sustainability-related financial products in the Australian market. With this comes a growing risk of greenwashing and, as a result, investors being confused or misled." This article, in the link below, from ASIC covers what it is and what businesses need to do to ensure they adhere to the rules covered by ASIC in regard to greenwashing. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqCmFBCw Here are some initial tips to consider. 🤔 💡 Transparency and Specificity - Be precise about your environmental claims - Provide specific, measurable data about your sustainability effortsPrioritise 💡 Genuine Emissions Reduction - Focus first on direct emissions reduction within your organisation - Create a verifiable, time-bound plan for actual emissions reduction 💡 Comprehensive and Honest Reporting - Report on both achievements and areas needing improvement - Measure and report on the full scope of emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) 💡 Align Claims with Actual Business Practices - Ensure environmental marketing matches actual operational practices - Integrate sustainability into core business strategy - Train employees on genuine sustainability principles 💡 Obtain Independent Verification - Seek certification from reputable third-party organisations - Ensure your sustainability reporting follows internationally recognised frameworks Climate Zero is here to help make sure the measurement and reporting of your business' GHG emissions is robust and auditable. Reach out to KB (Katherine) Buzza, Tai Lennon or Pete Brownstein to have a chat about getting started! #CarbonAccounting #SaaS #SustainabilityReporting
