Congrats
Say hello to Brad! Brad works within our Digital Coordination Centre (DCC), which we describe as our very own mission control where the team uses real-time data to make sure patients get the care they need, when they need it. Brad’s role is overseeing non-emergency patient transport. He helps streamline the process of patients going home or to their next point of care after their stay in hospital, or coming to the hospital for care or appointments. “I work through any complex cases that we have, to problem-solve on the spot and see how we can get patients home effectively and safely,” he explains. “Every day is different.” His role supports more patients to receive care when they need it by facilitating the flow of patients through their hospital journey, and also to get home when they are ready and it is safe to do so. Brad has only been with the RMH for just more than a year, but his achievements were recognised when he received the Next Generation Award at our end-of-year awards in 2024. Congratulations and thank you Brad!

Associate Professor A/Professor Magdalena Simonis AM is shedding a light on a serious issue: men's mental health. As she writes in The Australian one in four men will experience mental health issues, with depression and anxiety topping the list. Worryingly, a quarter of men declare they would not seek help for their mental health. Associate Professor Simonis, an AMA member and former AMA federal councillor, highlights the importance of speaking up when you need help. "Mental health problems are common, they are not a sign of weakness, and they can be managed with the help of your GP, a psychologist or psychiatrist. Sometimes just letting someone know can make a huge difference and help with recovery," Associate Professor Simonis writes.
