Four new floating evaporators are up and running on Ash Dam B at Callide Power Station as part of a project continuing to improve water management at the site. Floating evaporators use the Venturi effect – where water is pumped through constricted pipes to decrease fluid pressure – to create smaller water droplets, which then evaporate quickly. The project will see around 150,000 cubic metres of ash material being excavated to help increase the dam’s water capacity by up to 150 megalitres – read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gijJcYAh Around 99.9 per cent of the ash created at CS Energy’s power stations is collected in a manner that allows it to be recycled or stored in ash dams on site, and the water helps settle the ash in the dam, aiding dust control. 📷 Bruce Robson

A new cohort of operator trainees have started learning the ins and outs of how coal-fired power station works at Callide Power Station. Ashley Millican, Cale Bongers, Joel Bauer, Benjamin Ellis and Cameron Neale are the latest intake to join CS Energy's Trainee Operator Program, providing a pipeline of experienced talent for CS Energy while developing new skills and career pathways for themselves. Joel Harris was working in the gas sector in Chinchilla and ready for a career change when he came across the opportunity to join CS Energy's Renewables and Firming Operations team earlier this year. The team is responsible for the operations and maintenance of our newest assets - the Chinchilla Battery - and the soon to be completed Kogan Renewable Hydrogen Demonstration Plant. "The new technology and new type of industry piqued my interest and seemed like a good fit with my high voltage and gas experience," said Joel, who is also enjoying working in a small, tight-knit team. "I'm constantly learning new things... (Our team was) the first in the state to attend accredited hydrogen-specific training at the CQUniversity in Gladstone, so it was really exciting knowing that we are at the forefront of the industry." With the return to service of Callide C Power Station's Unit 3 in April and Unit 4 in August this year, we asked Callide Power Station's GM Mick Hill to give us an overview of the work that has been completed to support the safe return to service of Callide C. A complex and challenging project, it is the first time in Queensland that a major generating unit and its cooling tower have been completely rebuilt and integrated with existing infrastructure.
