After thirteen years of service at Darwin Port, our General Manager of Operations, Captain Ian Niblock, is hanging up his epaulettes to enjoy a more relaxed pace of life. His legacy, however, will remain across the Darwin Harbour 🌊 Starting as Harbour Master in 2010, Ian quickly became involved in the Ichthys LNG project, ensuring the navigational safety of LNG and LPG ships—a testament to his professionalism and focus on safety. Known among colleagues as the "Weatherman," Ian's expertise in weather predictive modeling and forecasting helped prepare staff and stakeholders for potential weather risks. His seasonal briefings provided critical information for planning, especially during the wet season 🌦 The public also grew familiar with Ian through his weekly chats on Port Report with local radio host Katie Woolf, where he shared updates on harbour activities, shipping, and marine safety tips 🎙 Ian has passed on the torch to the new Darwin Port team, leaving behind a strong foundation of mentorship and dedication to operational safety and future growth projects. We wish Captain Niblock all the best in his retirement!

Dredging operations have commenced as part of our collaboration with the Northern Territory Government and Clough BMD Group Joint Venture on the Ship Lift Project 🚢 This essential dredging activity is helping pave the way for vessels to access the Ship lift facility just outside our gates. By working closely with the project team, we’re utilizing our port’s pond system to store dredge spoil, pumped using a cutter suction dredge and innovative pipework. Some of this material will be reused in future construction, while the rest will help shape Darwin Port’s future—creating new hardstand or stockpile areas for further development 🏗 At Darwin Port, we're proud to support the growth of infrastructure that strengthens the region’s maritime industry. Together, we’re driving sustainable development for the NT. #DarwinPort #ShipLiftProject #Infrastructure #DiscoverYourPort #MaritimeDevelopment #PortOperations
