We recently installed the world-leading HyLogger-4 at our Drill Core Library, making South Australia one of only three in the country with access to this advanced technology! This innovation keeps us at the forefront of hyperspectral geoscience, significantly boosting our capacity to provide high-quality geoscientific data that supports the mining, exploration, and development sectors.
Member for West Torrens • Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Energy and Mining • Leader of Government Business in the House of Assembly
New cutting-edge technology at South Australia’s internationally renowned Core Library is set to advance the state’s leadership in research and data to support the mining, exploration and development sectors. The Core Library’s new HyLogger 4 is one of only three cutting-edge core scanners being installed across Australia. It is an imaging system that employs continuous visible and infrared spectroscopy to rapidly analyse drill cores, samples and cuttings without causing any damage to the sample. The HyLogger 4 will give South Australia another competitive advantage as we seek to cement our place in the global transition economy.

The energy and mining sector is a vital and diverse component of South Australia’s economy, playing a key role in our ambitions for a smart, sustainable, and inclusive future. In 2023-24, energy and mining contributed $7.35 billion, accounting for 42% of South Australia’s goods exports, along with generating $422 million in royalties for the state. We are excited to announce the launch of our interactive South Australian Energy and Mining Economic Dashboard, which provides current snapshots and trends in the sector.
