Vinesmith, a new Urban Cellar Door, Tasting Room, Wine Bar and Restaurant is now open in Melbourne.   Working with the split-level tenancy, the concept of a timber cave created a warm and comforting space to enjoy the fine wines of the Pyrenees and Grampians regions. The original concrete waffle ceiling on the upper floor is imprinted on the level below, cohesively connecting the spaces with rhythm and texture. The rich, dark hues and intricate grain of Black Bean timber flow liberally throughout, making for a sophisticated and elegant dining experience. Kei Kitayama, Senior Associate at Denton Corker Marshall, sat down with Architecture & Design (Australia) to talk about the genesis of this unique project. Scape Victoria is the 7th PBSA project we have delivered in the last 6 years. A key part of the Scape portfolio, this 24-storey building houses 533 students within walking distance to University of Melbourne and RMIT University. Holding a gateway location between Carlton and the CBD, deep vertical fins on the facade provide a dynamic and changing reading when seen obliquely or viewed straight on from surrounding streets. Scape Victoria this week was awarded Best Student Accommodation Development at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia). Photography by James Taylor

Congratulations to the team on the recent Sustainability Excellence Award for our Mt Derrimut Road Level Crossing Removal project. The new station at Deer Park boasts some of the most sustainable initiatives in Victorian rail, not only energy harvesting and material re-use, but in a Victorian first, an extensive green roof which mitigates heat island effect while providing habitat benefits. Thank you to Australasian Railway Association (ARA), and everyone at the WPA: McConnell Dowell, Mott MacDonald, Arup, Metro Trains Melbourne, and V/Line. (in collaboration with Hassell Landscape Architecture)
