What an incredible year at EACH. 🌟 This year marked a huge milestone – our 50th anniversary, celebrating five decades of making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. From the stories shared during our #50YearsOfEACH celebrations to the incredible work done across our services, 2024 has been a testament to our commitment to supporting healthier, happier communities. We launched our EACH 2024-28 strategy, that sets a bold vision for the future, focusing on innovative, accessible, and client centred services that create lasting impact and strengthen community wellbeing across Australia. This year, we stepped up our advocacy for better health and wellbeing, using our voice to shine a spotlight on critical issues like prescription medication dependence and financial abuse. We raised awareness by engaging media, policymakers, and politicians to drive attention toward these significant challenges. This year alone, EACH has proudly supported over 70,000 customers through more than 120 services across more than 50 locations, thanks to the dedication of our 1,500 staff and 200 volunteers along the eastern seaboard of Australia. Thank you for being part of our journey this year. #EACH #50YearsOfEACH #ExcitingChangesAhead

Financial abuse is a form of family violence and can be perpetrated in different forms - including through small business. Using small business as a means to control and harm, perpetrators exploit financial regulations, laws, and policies; devastating the lives of victims and their families and leaving them with crippling debts and complex legal issues EACH financial counsellor Julie Dal Pra spoke with Patricia Karvelas on ABC Radio National about the ways victims are subjected to financial abuse in business and why government reform is essential to end this form of abuse. At last, financial abuse is squarely on the national political agenda. We’ve been part of a small but determined group of organisations fighting for the attention this devastating form of abuse deserves – and yesterday, the findings of the Parliamentary Inquiry into Financial Abuse were released. Every week, our team of financial counsellors support women and families whose lives have been devastated by financial abuse, particularly in the small business sector. We hope the 61 recommendations out of the inquiry can mark the beginning of serious change. We believe it will take a properly funded, national centre against financial abuse to achieve this, and a growing number of government and industry representatives agree. This is an important moment. Our gratitude to the Commonwealth Bank for supporting our work over the past year.

🌟 “EACH embraces diversity and makes me feel like I’m worthy,” says Reni’a, Capacity Building Lead for the Early Childhood Approach. Reni’a has been working at EACH for more than seven years, and says it’s been “an incredible journey”. “EACH has supported my professional growth, allowing me to progress from Early Years Specialist to Practice Team Lead, and now, Capacity Building Lead,” Reni’a shares. One of the most rewarding aspects of Reni’a’s role is the positive impact EACH makes on the lives of children and families with developmental delays and disabilities. “It’s given me so much insight and pleasure to see the outcomes we’re achieving,” she says. "EACH has provided me with the tools and accommodations to excel, like read-aloud software, talk-to-text, and upgraded systems that make a real difference.” For Reni’a, it’s more than just a job – it's a place where she feels “valued, supported, and empowered to make a real impact”. 👉 Want to join our team and make a difference? Community Health First’s recent Impact Report showed demand for community-based health services has risen 20% over the past two years. Despite this, our funding has not increased substantively in 20 years. With cost of living at an all-time high, Victorians are increasingly unable to access or afford health care. Our 2024-25 Budget Submission asks the Victorian Government to invest in preventative, accessible care to keep Victorians healthy and out of hospital.
Community Health First’s 2025 Victorian Budget Submission is now live! The submission sets out our plans to scale evidence-based programs that improve health access and outcomes for Victorians and avoid an average of $3 in future healthcare costs for every $1 invested. It includes support for Victorians on public surgery waiting lists, accessible healthcare in regional and rural communities, and preventative services to effectively manage chronic disease outside of hospital. These programs can deliver a stronger, more sustainable and equitable healthcare system for all Victorians. Our full submission can be found here: bit.ly/CHF-budget-2526

Meet Karen Bates, our dedicated Allied Health Assistant at EACH. 🌟💜 Karen’s journey with EACH began in 2018 as a Social Activity Group Support Worker at Killara House. Though she loved the role, Karen decided to step away and pursue studies in allied health. However, the strong sense of community at EACH drew her back. In early 2023, Karen returned for a placement as part of her studies, and soon after, she was offered a permanent position as an Allied Health Assistant. Reflecting on her journey, Karen shares, “EACH has supported me from the start of my career to where I am now.” 👉 Discover more about Karen’s inspiring journey and how she’s making a meaningful impact in the lives of our customers by clicking on the link in the comments. #AlliedHealth #Healthcare #CareerJourney #EmployeeSpotlight

We're thrilled to announce that EACH will be delivering the innovative My Care Partners program in South Western Sydney with South Western Sydney PHN. My Care Partners provides tailored, coordinated care through GP clinics to people with complex and chronic conditions who are at risk of potentially preventable hospital admissions. This program will see EACH supporting people with complex conditions in South Western Sydney by integrating with their GPs, providing better coordinated care for happier, healthier living – and fewer hospital stays. We're extremely excited to help bring this patient-centred model of care to the people of South Western Sydney.

Popular media personality Jackie O recently shared that she went to rehab in secret for prescription medicine dependence, which included sedatives. Sedatives is another name for benzodiazepines, and they’re the most common single drug type involved in drug overdose deaths. Just last week, they were found to have been involved in One Direction singer Liam Payne’s death. They are also the most common substance involved in drug-induced suicides in Australia. So why aren’t we talking about it? That’s what our Reconnexion team has asked the Federal Government this week, in their response to an inquiry into drug impacts in Australia. Benzodiazepines are most often prescribed for anxiety and insomnia, despite not being first-line treatment. With 90% of people presenting to a GP with insomnia being prescribed a benzodiazepine, there are tens of thousands of Australians being prescribed these drugs unaware of the high risk of dependency, the potential harms, and the gradual process of safe withdrawal. To address this, we’re calling on the government to fund a national support line to help people taking benzodiazepines and people with dependence; and better education for GPs and prescribers.
