Cooking 1000s of nutritious meals a day for people in need. Kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane. Corporate volunteering.

About us

FareShare is a charity that has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. We believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location. FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact. Our healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges, First Nations organisations and groups providing disaster relief. The need for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians.

FareShare is thrilled to have begun hosting our own in-house thought leadership events called Food for Thought! A big thank you to everyone who attended the inaugural ones in our Brisbane and Melbourne kitchens. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss food insecurity in Australia and how food rescue is playing a crucial role in addressing this challenge. We provided an update on our Meals for the Mob program, our shelf-stable meals that will aid remote communities and disaster response, and our exciting medically tailored meals program that aims to support people with specific health needs. Hats off to our incredible staff, and to our special guests Graham from the Father Bob's Foundation and Kate from Hymba Yumba Independent School for their valuable insights and support. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at future Food for Thought events, and to applying these thoughts to making an even more meaningful impact. #FoodForThought #FoodRescue #FoodSecurity

It was great to welcome SecondBite partner Mondelēz International into the FareShare Brisbane kitchen recently, and to show them firsthand how our chefs transform quality donated food into nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for people who need them most. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who plated up 2,941 mango chilli chicken and rice meals! These meals will provide essential nutrition and comfort to people doing it tough. We are grateful to have Mondelez as part of the SecondBite | FareShare family, and we look forward to continuing to fight food insecurity together.

We’re heading into that magical time of year again, although not for everyone… Not for, say, the 30% of Australians who have had to skip a meal to save money this year like Rosetta. Abused by her parents, her ex-husband, and her last partner, she continues to struggle with money and her mental health. Yet her story is one of immense courage and resilience… and a few FareShare meals when needed. “I’ll be on my own for Christmas most likely, but I’m looking forward to that FareShare meal.” Give meals that make people feel less alone this Christmas. Donate today at https://lnkd.in/dDuaGxGw

I can taste the love and care in them, like an arm wrapped around you, a hug, a family."

Thank you Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Landline for featuring us in this great segment on food waste and rescue. We love receiving more rescued food donations thereby reducing food waste, thanks to the world-leading End Food Waste Australia Food Pact. One of our valued food donors, Simon George & Sons, delivers around 300kgs of quality produce each week, which our dedicated chefs and volunteers cook into free, nutritious meals that provide comfort and dignity for people doing it tough. As chef James explains in the episode, FareShare Brisbane cooks around 1.5 million meals per year. However, with more food donations like this, we could cook millions more. “The need is exponential,” he explains. “We've now got families that never in their life ever thought they'd reach out for food assistance, including those where someone has a job.” Watch the full segment here: https://lnkd.in/gdxQbUup

Thank you Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for featuring the FareShare Brisbane kitchen and our wonderful volunteer Bill on Landline last Sunday. Bill is an absolute legend. Since he started volunteering with us six years ago, he has completed nearly 900 shifts, clocking up 3,000 hours of service in the process. What a massive accomplishment; on ya Bill 👏! Volunteers like Bill are the heart and soul of FareShare. We simply could not prepare, cook, and pack thousands of free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough every day without them. #livinglegend #volunteering #helpingpeople #makingfriends #connection #Brisbane

For the 4th year running, our friends at Deloitte have volunteered with us for their annual Impact Day, where they give back to the communities where they live and work. This year, across three days, 43 Deloitte employees helped out in our Brisbane kitchen and made a big impact with: 🥗 6,528 nutritious meals dished up, including our brand-new curried sausage Meals for the Mob 🥗 7,360 ready-to-eat meals packed and ready to be delivered A massive thanks to all the volunteers. It was great to see some familiar faces from past years too. Additionally, we are very grateful to have received a generous monetary donation that will help us to cook more than 1,000 additional meals, which will provide nutrition and comfort to those doing it tough right now. Thanks again Deloitte and we hope to see you again next year!

FareShare’s expanded Abbotsford kitchen officially opened on Thursday! Catered by our talented chefs and attended by supporters, dignitaries, corporate partners, charity partners, and volunteers, this event was a beautiful culmination of the yearlong redevelopment. A big thanks to everyone who attended, and to everyone who had a hand in enabling our chefs and volunteers to cook up to half a million more meals for people doing it tough every year. We couldn’t have done it without you ❤️ Our Abbotsford kitchen is already cooking more free, nutritious meals than before, and we’re excited to keep that momentum going as SecondBite | FareShare continue to make an even bigger impact together. #officialopening #culmination #foodrescue #foodinsecurity #impact #mealswithheart #Abbotsford

It was a peri peri impactful afternoon for these Nando's Australia & New Zealand team members in the FareShare Abbotsford kitchen – a big thanks to all the energetic, enthusiastic volunteers. This large crew was destined to turn up the heat and get lots done – and they didn’t disappoint! They prepared 903 free, nutritious gnocchi meals in a creamy ham sauce, and chopped 100kgs of ham (that is a huge amount!), and plenty of capsicum, corn, zucchini, eggplant and broccoli to boot. A special shout out to Nando’s CIO Ed Tollinton, who has been an incredibly generous pro bono supporter of our IT work. Nando's also partners with SecondBite to ensure their unused chickens find their way to people doing it tough right now! #teamvolunteering #teambuilding #teamwork #impact #mealswithheart #melbourne
