We’ve flipped the switch at Melbourne Water’s Western Treatment Plant! ⚡️ The 5 West Nutrient Removal Plant project has reached a major milestone with the energisation of the first main switchboard, officially kicking off the commissioning phase. This marks the transition from construction to operations as we prepare for rigorous testing and optimisation. The team has already perfected the first test, confirming the diffusers are working as designed. These one millimetre bubbles are boosting oxygen transfer and driving energy efficiency in the plant. Next up, our BMD team will be installing and fine-tuning sensors, transmitters, and analysers to automate and monitor key processes. These advanced systems will ensure precise control over water treatment operations. It’s all about efficiency and accuracy as we move closer to project completion! #ProjectMilestone #WasteWater #BMD

  • Big things happening at GEM Industrial! We're thrilled to share our journey into shop fabrication HDPE works! Late last year, we took the leap, invested in new equipment, and completed extensive training. And what a payoff! Our first project was a large-scale shop fabrication job, featuring: - 12 km of fabrications - 1250 fabricated 90-Deg bends - 6000 side fusions - Hundreds of stub flanges And we didn’t stop there! Our next project was similar but much larger: 280mm, heavier wall, SDR11 pipe for the sewage treatment industry. This job required many fabricated bends, stub flanges and 100’s of side fusions also. Huge shoutout to our shop fusion legends - Dave, Cody, Darcy, Tyson, and the whole crew! Your hard work and relaxed attitudes make it all possible. Stay tuned for more updates from GEM Industrial! __________________________________ Australia’s leading HDPE Pipeline and Welding Specialists. #HDPE #HDPEPipe #IndustrialPlumbing #IndustrialPipelineConstruction #IndustrialWelding #HDPEFusion #FusionWelding #HDPEPipeline #PipelineConstruction #Fabrication #HDPEFabrication #PipeFabrication #SewageTreatment

  • We appreciate this feedback from Latrobe Magnesium for a past piping fabrication and installation project we did. Our team's expertise and specialised training enabled us to deliver high-quality results using advanced equipment like the SP 110-S infrared fusion machine. We're proud to have played a role in the project's success and thank Latrobe Magnesium for their trust in our services. #HDPE #HDPEPipe #IndustrialPlumbing #IndustrialPipelineConstruction #IndustrialWelding #HDPEFusion #FusionWelding #HDPEPipeline #PipelineConstruction #infraredfusion

  • The Butt Fusion process for HDPE pipes involves heating and joining the pipe ends to create a strong, uniform joint through molecular diffusion and crystallisation. Assume the pipe wall thickness can be separated into an outer 1/3rd, a middle or center 1/3rd, and an inner 1/3rd. The fusion-joint’s plane of co-crystallisation is formed from the center third of the pipe wall thickness. The outer bead is formed from the outer one-third of the pipe wall melt volume; the inner bead from the inner one-third, and the fusion-joint line from the radial flow of the middle one-third. The face of the central third stretches in diameter (like pizza dough). Across this hot, stretched plane, the hot mobile molecules on each pipe end come into intimate contact under axial pressure, pulling the molecules from the two faces together. The long-chain HDPE polymers wiggle and diffuse into each other, gradually slowing in mobility and motion as they reach maximum diffusion depth. As the cooler, solid pipe draws heat away from the melt, the solidification process advances to the plane of co-crystallisation. When the temperature drops below crystallisation temperature, solidification completes, and molecular diffusion stops. Intermolecular diffusion and entanglement is a time and temperature-driven function. Temperature mobilises molecular ‘wiggling’ because of the heat energy. Heat reflects molecular motion, and time allows molecules to find ‘holes’ to fit and slip, like worms moving over each other. Outside normal fusion parameters, excessive force, or pressure against the interfacial plane of co-crystallisation can squeeze out most of the melt volume, leaving little residual heat between the pipe ends. The cool pipe end zone quenches the temperature and solidify the plane before achieving maximum diffusion depth. __________________________________ Australia’s leading HDPE Pipeline and Welding Specialists. - www.gemindustrial.com.au #HDPE #HDPEPipe #IndustrialPlumbing #PipeFusion #ButtFusion #ButtFusionMachine #HDPEPipes #PipeWelder #HDPEFacts #Facts #Question

  • Equipment in the spotlight: The MegaMC 1600. At GEM Industrial, we know firsthand the game-changing power of our MegaMc 1600 machine. This beast of a machine has been a total pipeline powerhouse for us, allowing us to tackle even the largest and most complex jobs with ease and precision. We've seen the difference it makes with its unparalleled 4-jaw grip and re-rounding capabilities, exerting 30,000 lbs of clamping force each - it's a total confidence booster! And with an impressive 88,000 lbs of fusion force, we've got the extra oomph we need to overcome even the toughest drag challenges. But what really sets us apart is the machine's versatility and efficiency. We can butt fuse most fittings without jumping through hoops or removing jaws. Plus, hydraulic power takes the hard work out of fusion functions, so our team can focus on what matters most - delivering exceptional results. With the MegaMc 1600 on our team, we're proud to be leading the charge in our industry. Its strength, precision, and reliability takes our work to the next level!

  • Late last year, @GEMIndustrial completed an identical project for the same client to a water clarifier in Southern Victoria, this one is number two on the same site. This water clarifier kept our team busy for another two and half weeks, removing and replacing the centre tube and other components on this important piece of state-owned infrastructure which is used in #effluent management. We disassembled and replaced the centre tube and reconditioned corroded parts of the clarifier before reassembling. The clarifier is now ready for recommissioning and continuing its life providing important service to Victorians. Once again we are so proud of our team and its a credit to them that the Customer Satisfaction measures up.

BMD Group is delivering the final stage of Melbourne Water three-stage program of augmentation works to construct a new 150ML/d Nutrient Removal Plant within the Western Treatment Plant (WTP). The WTP treats about half of Melbourne’s sewage, with the new infrastructure to address historical and future growth, renew ageing equipment, improve overall plant efficiency, and enhance safety for operation and maintenance activities. GEM Industrial scope of work includes the supply, fabrication and installation of aeration diffuser and pipework systems consisting of many lengths of HDPE pipe and thousands of fusion welds installed within five combined bioreactor-clarifier tanks. We are very pleased to be associated with this project for BMD and Melbourne Water.

  • #GEMIndustrial spends a large amount of time and resources working at landfill sites around the state. Leachate is liquid generated from rainfall and the natural decomposition of waste that is filtered through the landfill cell to a leachate collection system which normally is constructed using HDPE pipe and fittings which are fused together. The leachate collection system's job is to direct the leachate to collection sumps so it can be properly removed from the landfill site to ultimately protect the environment.
