Environmental and Social Responsibility at Port Phillip Sea Pilots – Part 2 At PPSP, we are very fortunate. Our ‘office’ includes some of Victoria’s most treasured waters – the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park. As we take great care of the environment, we are always looking for ways to reduce our impact. But our ‘office’ can also be treacherous – one of the most unpredictable and wild shipping passages in the world. So we need boats that are not only ‘green’, but also extremely safe. It makes us very proud to share that the PV Torquay is the second of this new generation of the safest, most technically advanced and sustainable pilot vessels anywhere in Australia. The official Christening of the PV Torquay took place on June 21 at Queenscliff Harbour after the Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by the Traditional custodians of our lands and waterways, the Wadawurrung people. It is a great privilege to operate on the ancient land and waterways of the Wadawurrung people. With more than 70 guests including customers, Port Authorities and important stakeholders attending, Alison Marchant, MP for Bellarine and our MD, Capt. Mike Hanson christened the vessel under a blue sky. The following reception was held at our Pilot Station in Queenscliff and truly felt like a family gathering. Thanks to the industry leading technology of another proudly Victorian business – our partners at Hart Marine – the PV Torquay will allow us to reduce fuel burn and emissions by an incredible 30 per cent, if not more. Plus, it is biofuel-ready. Diesel fuel burn is one of our leading sources of emissions – so the 30 plus % reduction the Torquay will give us is momentous. We have also installed the latest technology from Marfle to provide fuel performance analysis, driving style assessments, and other essential features, with the aim to further reduce fuel consumption while ensuring maximum safety and efficiency. The Hart Marine team are nearing completion on a new ORC Pilot Vessel for Port Phillip Sea Pilots Pty Ltd This partnership marks our seventh project together and is a testament to the trust and confidence PPSP has in our craftsmanship and commitment to quality. The vessel features the integrated Volvo Penta IPS system for fuel efficiency, and advanced technology like the Marfle fuel monitoring system, providing real-time engine and fuel data to enhance operational performance.
